Madman's laughter
Jan. 3rd, 2003 12:27 pmAd Mundo Exteriore,
The New York Times claimed that Korea was a "vassal state" of China from 1400 to 1800. Am furious because:
(1)Yes, we paid tribute. But "vassal state" sounds like the Chinese appointed colonial governors over us, which is not true. I mean, one of the major sources of pride for a small Asian country living on the edge of what has been a powerful empire is that we preserved political and cultural independence! -_-
(2) What's with the 1400 to 1800? That doesn't coincide with any of the major historical periods in Korean history. The Yi Chosun dynasty ruled approximately from 1300 to 1900. Maybe the reporter got his centuries mixed up. But still!
I know, you don't care. Humph.
I have had less than twelve hours of sleep in two days. Not very shocking, but I feel pleasantly insane right now. HUNS paper is finally over and done with. Whew. Four days on that stupid project, and I realized just before managing to make myself start writing that the committee director was oh-so-wonderfully vague about what areas of development to concentrate on. Plus, he kept using "principals" instead of "principles". Such is the world of college juniors who attend somewhat prestigious universities yet rely on their spell check instead of actual spelling skills...
Now, I have to write a science paper in three days. Oy vey. (Technically, I did the SRTP paper in one night, so I can do the same for this one, right? Right?
ldmoonflower, reassure me here, before I start panicking, please?)
By the way, at three in the morning today, after finishing my HUNS paper, instead of going immediately to sleep like a good little girl I read an additional chapter of Godel, Escher, Bach. Strangely enough, I understood everything. Or I think I understood everything. Maybe I just hallucinated/dreamed the whole incident. La-di-da, the world's dissolving into a surrealist painting...!
