Computer anxieties
Jul. 14th, 2003 11:16 amAd Mundo Exteriore,
I've been slightly bothered by the fact that there is an "equivalent" model from Compaq on sale at CompUSA for about the same price as my IBM. Why should this bother me? Because since I had to pay shipping and handling costs, I ended up paying more for my IBM than I would have for the Compaq. Plus the Compaq has a 120 GB hard drive (three times the size of mine) and speakers (which I do need badly). Oh yes, and it has an extra DVD-R drive. I saw the advertisement yesterday, after I set up my computer.
I'm reassuring myself by reminding myself that IBM builds the highest-quality PC machines, that I've never really liked Compaq models to begin with (hate their keyboards), that I'm using my excess scholarship to pay for computer costs anyway, and that I can always upgrade my hard drive and add a internal DVD-R if I really needed to. Which I don't, but you know about computer envy. What really annoys me though is that this particular Compaq model has a sleek silver casing and looks a whole lot better than my IBM, which was designed along the lines of black, bulky and sharply rectangular. How...pre-iMac.
Anyway, I "wub" my IBM, even if it's an ugly duckling. ::telepathically sends it a pat on the head:: (I'm stealing Internet time off Father's laptop, which by the way is Hewlett Packard. Ew.) And black would probably match my room better than silver. Hmph. The key to mental health is to rationalize until you're always in the right.
