Ad Mundo Exteriore,

My Intermediate Korean class has three fully Korean students, one being a former Hunter student in the year above us, the other being a MIT student, and of course me. The other six or seven are either mixed or obviously Caucasian. It was an extremely unsettling experience. We had a conversation exercise, and one of the students I spoke to had a rather confused look on his face when I started talking too quickly. That was so weird...

Anyway, I bought textbooks today at the Coop, but the Stewart text for multivariable calculus was sold out. I went to BN.com, where it was sold out as well. I threw up my hands and just ordered it anyway, using the gift card that one of my tutoring students gave me as a farewell present, which means it didn't cost me a cent. (And I got a Student Advantage discount, plus free shipping, which means there's enough money left over on the card to buy a textbook next semester.) It's not as bad as I expected.

I have homework to do. It feels odd. Haven't done homework in four months. How the heck am I supposed to get used to school after such a long break?

Tonight's resolution: to go to sleep at ten-thirty. What's good about being sleep-deprived, though, is that I'm exhauted enough to fall asleep almost immediately.

...Tari

Post-script: Thanks to Tin, I found the e-texts for several of the Five Little Peppers books, and I finished Five Little Peppers Grown Up yesterday. The sequels feel surprisingly uneven, as if Margaret Sidney had jostled together several fragments in a hurry without checking for gaps. Anyway, I knew Jasper would marry Polly, and I wish the proposal hadn't been sprung out of nowhere without more angsting on the part of the suitors. Also, I feel tickled by the Harvard references, especially "The Old Brick Dormitory", since all the dormitories here are brick (and old). In fact, the whole school is brick (and old).
