Lowell House, on the Feast of Sts. Andrew Kim Taegeon, Paul Cheong Hasang, and Companions

I've decided that with the start of the new school year, I'm changing my LJ layout to ultra-ultra-minimalist. As well as a few other formalistic details, because I'm getting sick of the ellipsis. (I forgot that today is the saint day of the forty Korean martyrs. I always forget every year, even though it's the day before my birthday.)

Chemistry 30 is already proving to be overwhelming, although our professor is one of those gruff old men who are still very truly in love with their subject and makes us laugh with his, well, gruff humor. Nevertheless, I feel lost already. Although I have to admit, he seems to be taking a rigorously theoretical approach that, if it sticks, will probably make me eventually get a better grasp of chemistry.

The adults--I feel bizarre saying "adults" because I'm turning 19 tomorrow, but I do still feel as if I haven't fully grown up yet--here are such personalities (well, for the most part). Our House co-Masters (the first lesbian couple to be appointed to the position) are these lovely, old women who trail long scarves and shawls, and speak in that gracious and precise sort of voice, the kind that breathes class. They got married this summer, apparently, and when they made the announcement last night at the All-House meeting, the whole audience applauded. Despite my growing disillusionment with Lowell food, I have to admit that I adore our House's personality.

Biological Sciences 52 should be interesting. I already like the textbook which has James Watson for its primary author (insert starry eyes here), and Richard Losick is a very organized lecturer (not spectacular but certainly not boring). Korean 130a--well, all I can say is now that the Korean-Americans outnumber the, well, non-native speakers in the class, I no longer have an edge. On the other hand, I'm not the only female or the youngest in the class anymore. Plus, we get to go karaoke! >_> Give me a few more years, and soon I'll be a karaoke addict like oniichan. How sad.

Kendo begins this Friday. Am so out of shape. Hope the first practice will begin lightly.

I wanted to talk about the paternal sex ratio (PSR) chromosome in wasps, but I'll save that for a later day. I need to read these chapters on Mendelian genetics for biology. ::rolls eyes:: I understand review is important but there's only so many times I can take learning about Punnett squares. (Of course I'm putting off reviewing sixteen chapters of Loudon for later. >_>)

Yours &c.
