Ad Mundo Exteriore,

I know I just posted a long, rambling entry a while ago, but we have DSL at home now and I can afford to post a (brief, I promise) rant again.

I just checked my mail and received information on how to get to my summer residence hall. It informed me that I won't be able to access Harvard's network this summer.

In other words...dial-up access.

All right, it's not the end of the world. I survived fine on dial-up all during high school. In fact, it's even good news because I have no incentive to go online when I face a slow Internet connection, and I might, you know, actually go out to the bookstore or the libraries or, hey, even socialize in the evenings instead of having my eyes glued to the computer.

But...yeuch. It's hard to go back. I think I'm going to check my email at the Science Center or the labs from now on. Plus, definitely not downloading anything this summer. >_<

Hey--

where are you staying for the summer?

I'm staying at Perkins Hall (graduate school housing), which is on Oxford Street, north of the Science Center. Other than that...I'll probably be hanging at the Center for Genomics Research, which is in the same complex as the Fairchild labs. What about you?

Either Leverett or Winthrop.

I was wondering--do you know any sites with pics of what rooms in Winthrop/LEverett look like? From the websites of those houses it seems that Leverett is better (the website for Winthrop talks about overcrowding and small doubles).

What would be your preference?

I don't know any sites, but I stayed in Winthrop during pre-frosh weekend, and it was very old but very spacious. Plus the House is beautiful (and its dining hall is one of my favorites, although I suppose that doesn't apply in this situation). Of course, my host was a senior and therefore had one of the best suites in the House.

My friend L.P. stayed in Leverett towers. Now, the towers are extremely ugly--all glass and concrete, with a definite warehouse feel--but the actual rooms are very nice and modern, with great views. Kind of feels like a Manhattan penthouse. I personally still dislike the look of the towers, but a lot of people think it's nice. ::shrugs:: Old Leverett is terrible however, according to what I've heard.

I would prefer Winthrop, but that's only because I have a preference for the more traditional buildings.

Ok,

I now know for sure I will be living in Winthrop House, in a single located in the "G" part of it. We'll just have to see how it turns out when I move in.
