Ad Mundo Exteriore,

The news of the day--or rather, yesterday--is that...[livejournal.com profile] lush_rimbaud, [livejournal.com profile] tryogeru and I went to see the Harry Potter movie at the E-Walk cinema in Times Square, and on our way out, we saw Peter Jackson.

Yes, Peter Jackson, director of Lord of the Rings.

I was talking on the phone to my mother at the time, and Lydia commented, "Hey, doesn't he look just like Peter Jackson?" I looked up to see a short, plump, hobbit-like man in a red polo shirt, who did indeed look like Peter Jackson (and gave us a rather irritated glance as he passed by us). But I thought, "Hah, the likes of me seeing the real Peter Jackson? Yeah, right, it's just a lookalike," and continued talking on the phone, while Lydia and Tryogeru stood in a state of frantic indecision over whether to take a photograph or chase after him for an autograph or generally act like rabid fangirls. (I had my new digital camera with me, at the time. Which reminds me...yay, I have a digital camera! ::is gleeful::)

We finally followed him up the escalator, and found that there was this blocked-off section, where you needed a pass to enter. It did look like some sort of special event was going on, so I started wondering if he really was Peter Jackson, and not a lookalike. We obviously didn't have passes so we eventually went downstairs, and on the first floor, there was a red carpet out and many important-looking people standing around, with cameras around them. We asked one of the bystanders, and he told us that it was the premiere for a documentary film about Broadway. And so that pretty much clinched it...we probably did see Peter Jackson, and he was within three feet of us as we exited the theatre. O_O Weird, neh? I didn't think these things could possibly happen to me.

Oh, and as for the Harry Potter movie...I agree with [livejournal.com profile] kaydeefalls that the lack of explanation about the Marauders and the CG-rendered werewolf were disappointing. But other than that, it was a gorgeous movie--some of those shots were so beautiful that they took my breath away. Clearly the work of a talented director.

Harry has no charisma, but his acting improved tremendously. Draco has gotten quite ugly--his hair is as lank and greasy as Snape's, which makes you really wonder if there's something wrong with the air in the Slytherin dungeons--but he leers at Harry and is very amusing in his snivelling cowardice. Snape is awesome. I don't quite like Thewlis' portrayal of Lupin, but Gary Oldman is perfect as Sirius. And the new Dumbledore is also much, much better (I hated the last actor, as much as I don't like to speak ill of the dead).

I really loved it, despite the plot changes. Plus, I don't think going about in Muggle clothes took away anything--personally I always imagined them to be in regular clothes when they were outside of classes. Although I do have to wonder why Harry's clothes look so new and fit him so well. ^_^ And well, I really didn't like the first two movies. They were charming, but they were badly paced (they felt so rushed!), and they couldn't stand on their own as movies. It was more about "let's see Harry Potter on screen" than "let's make a good movie adaptation of the books". This one is much better, in my opinion. Also, I kind of equate Rowling with Tamora Pierce or David Eddings. Entertaining stories, calculated to appeal to a lot of people, but not particularly impressive writing. ::shrugs:: Sorry for uttering heresy...I still like the books, you know (and Pierce and Eddings).

Started watching a gangster Korean drama, called All In. Will comment on it once I finish. ^_^

I've watched All In, it started out quite interesting but couldn't hold my attention later on.
