Ad Mundo Exteriore,

Hello, I am back in New York and currently at [livejournal.com profile] tryogeru's house. Actually, on her laptop, which has a cool wireless card, so we can sit in the living room and listen to music and agonize over our FSTs. >_> Anyway, am ending my hiatus from LJ early because...frankly I really miss babbling about my life. Sad as that sounds.

So, the past two months and a half: research is fun (the project I worked on was helping to develop a microarray for genotyping Arabidopsis, but the lab itself works on a heat stress protein that's a chaperone and potentially a molecular mechanism for evolution), but Cambridge is boring and terribly lonely in the summer. I've never felt so out of touch with people before, although it got a little better once Tryogeru and I started weekly five-hour conversations in the middle of the night. (Ah, she corrects me--we were on the phone for six hours. Thank goodness cell phone plans have off-peak hours free.) Oh, and a daily email exchange with Jenny J. ^_^

All right, so we're going to go on a movie marathon soon, but I wanted to announce that I wasn't completely nonproductive in the fandom department:

Click to download. Featuring Cloud Strife, Advent Children style. ^_^

Also, [livejournal.com profile] rimedragona's drabble, which I actually finished back in July, but am posting a link anyway: The Problem With Fortune-Telling (also here if you want to avoid Fanfiction.net).

Spent a lot of time reading mysteries, fantasy and random New York Times Book Review recommendations. Hm, what else? Oh, everyone, Hero is coming out in the U.S. tomorrow! Opening day! We are going to see it. Are you? If not, why not? ^_^

...Tari

Post-script: Am logging IPs of all comments due to an unfortunate incident with an anonymous commenter. Why random people read my LJ is beyond me. I suppose I should be vaguely flattered that I sound "smart" although I think I sound more like a whiny "stupid undergrad"...which I am, actually. >_

Yup! Actually, I've been commanded to go on a mission of extreme delicacy: retrieving Tryogeru's Hero VCD from your apartment. ^_^;; Let's see a movie; I've been so movie-deprived this summer. ::whine-whine-whine::

How was training? ::pokes Lydia repeatedly in hopes of news::

Yay! What do you want to see?

And training was actually pretty cool, a lot of the time. My squad leader second detail was a sexist creep who left me and the other girl in our squad out of everything, but when he wasn't around it was awesome.

Sorry to butt in like this, but I'm curious about the art and the caption in your icon? Where's the art from and why that caption?

Oh! The art is by Edmund Dulac, called "The Blue Bird." It's an illustration for the fairy tale of the same title.

As for the caption, I write slash/yaoi, and I'm also very fond of fairy tales. I've written fairy tale slash a few times, which is why I use that caption. ^_^ Princes in these folktales can be slashed, too.

The art is pretty, I'd say late 19th century to early 20th, because the style is reminscent of Rackham and Kay.

Welcome back!

Hero? As in the one with Zhang Ziyi Maggie Cheung in it? If that's the one, you're getting a pretty late release for that.

Yes. In fact, it may never have arrived here at all if Quentin Tarantino didn't push for its release.

Of course, since I have cool Chinatown contacts (i.e. [livejournal.com profile] tryogeru, I already saw it on VCD. It blew me away on computer, but it was absolutely fantastic on the big screen. XD

Hmmmm. I guess that sort of lowers your chances of getting House of Flying Daggers then. And Takeshi Kaneshiro and Andy Lau are both in it too--hows that for star combination?

Welcome back!!! ^___^ We really missed you!

Wonderful skin! Really! It must've been a lot of work. Hm... the style is similar to your Metropolis-skin, it fits this image perfectly! ^_^

Thanks! Glad you liked it! I should go through your journal and look for all the skins I'm sure I missed. ^_^ And I missed you all too! Being away from LiveJournal was terrible.
