Losing battle with procrastination
Jan. 9th, 2005 11:19 amLowell House, on the Feast of St. Adrian of Canterbury
Self, if you have no incentive to work, the solution is not to start reading the biography of Borges on modernword.com and attempt to figure out how to translate the title "The Garden of Forking Paths" into Chinese through a convoluted system involving AltaVista Babelfish and hanja dictionaries. Nor is it to read several hundred pages worth of fanfiction in a fandom that you know nothing about. Nor is it to start outlining a story you will never write and end up browsing Wikipedia hoping for details on how opium is smoked. No, the solution is to go to bed instead of spending four and a half hours avoiding writing your lab report. ::bangs head against desk::
Argh. After those four and a half hours of procrastination, I forced myself to go to bed at 2:30 in the morning, couldn't fall asleep, woke up at 7:30 to my alarm clock, and wasn't a bit sleepy. Is this the onset of insomnia or just another "I've been pushing off my homework to the last minute, and the resulting subconscious anxiety has led to an adrenaline surge" incident? But I've never had insomnia before; ten hours is the cycle my body runs on naturally without the interference of parents or alarms.
I've moved from desktop to laptop though, and I don't know if it's the change in OS or just my panic system kicking in, but I've finally managed to stay focused for more than an hour. Thank goodness. Goal is to finish everything by 4:45, at which point I shall switch gears and study Korean. The final is tomorrow afternoon, but it shouldn't be too difficult. I know exactly what and how to study, and by my rough estimate, a total of nine hours should be enough. But in order to achieve nine hours, I need to finish this lab report this afternoon, so I can leave the evening hours free. ::frazzled:: Anyway, back to work!
Yours &c.
Post-script: Three hours later...another hour of work done, in addition to some quizzes.

Date: 2005-01-10 04:52 am (UTC)- glad to hear practice was hard/good. my arms hurt just from carrying a heavy bag for like ten minutes...so yeah, looks like it'll be pain all around next weekend.
- interesting post re: reading. me = reading child, in a major way (as far as i can remember, anyway). and i was just talking about the scholastic book order forms with someone. they were great, when the orders came in, it was better than getting mail.
- good luck with woork!
