Lowell House, on the Feast of St. Macarius of Jerusalem
The 'Tempting Fate' meme:
1. Make an LJ-cut post with "DO NOT READ" as the text.
2. Do not select a 'mood' for this post.
3. If anyone clicks the cut, they are to comment and admit to doing so.
4. Anyone who reads this also has to do the same in THEIR journal, thus continuing the neverending madness.
I can't believe I'm so gullible. >_>
I've spent the last two hours staring at this problem set and browsing fic instead of actually, well, doing it. >_< Argh. Should hurry up and finish it so I don't force Daera to stay up late waiting for me to finish.
Meanwhile, some quotes from Mathematics with Love:

Meanwhile, some quotes from Mathematics with Love:
"Our friend Count von 'InTheLimit' crops up here. I've made him a Count because he's a wandering cosompolitan sort of fellow that is always turning up in unexpected places. And so we say that if we continue our process of choosing our first quantity smaller and smaller then 'In the Limit' (Hullo, Count, you here!), when our first quantity is indefinitely small then the quantities of the 2nd and subsequent orders are in fact zero."I have only one question: why didn't Barnes Wallis write my calculus textbook in high school? Also, hurray for anthropomorphizing mathematical/scientific concepts!
"But how can I really and truly get at the instantaneous value, i.e. can I possibly show this value to be what I suspect it to be namely 4?
"Yes I can but I must introduce you to a new character, the Lord Chamberlain of the Lilliputians, the Duke of Delta Eks. 'Molly, the Duke of Delta Eks'--'Duke,MollyMiss Bloxam' (Hanged if I am going to allow the fellow to get as familiar as that straight off, insignificant tho' he is).
"I didn't introduce the Count to you on purpose, he gives one the impression of being a rather shady sort of fellow, dont you think, always 'fading away' into the illimitable background. Besides who could possibly know a person who lives in the place where parallel straight lines are popularly supposed to meet!
"Well, the Duke of Delta Eks is a very wee and obliging sort of fellow, who has the peculiar property that he too will fade away into the background at the merest suggestion on our part that he should become indefinitely reduced'. Poor little fellow, it must be rather hard lines to start life quite a decent, measurable finite size, even tho' only a very small size, and then just as he is beginning to look around and enjoy life to be told to fade away until he is smaller than any imaginable quantity. It's not even a decent death, its annihilation!"
Yours &c.

Date: 2005-03-11 06:11 am (UTC)OH, I know you're not a wellesley student, but Mr. S would like us to come up with a "mon", and I have little artisitic talent. I was wondering if you could help us come up with something. Or at least give feedback if we come up with anything?
Oh, and apparently, our Japan Club is having a ...Ok, i might have heard this wrong, but I swear I heard "shoryuhai". Either way, we are having some kind of exchange/meeting/party? thing with nearby JC's and I believe Harvard was mentioned?

Date: 2005-03-11 12:10 pm (UTC)I don't think you heard "Shoryuhai" because the "hai" part means "tournament". In any case, I'm not part of the Japan Society here, for understandable reasons, so I wouldn't know what was going on anyway.

A 'mon' is a...plaque...a symbol...all schools have one, old families have one.
