Lowell House, on Good Friday

A meme I can do with flair (taken from [livejournal.com profile] pornkings, [livejournal.com profile] faeryetale and [livejournal.com profile] memlu):

Comment and I'll tell you what my favourite story of yours is and why. You may have to refresh my memory about what you've written and where you've posted it.

I really do enjoy raving about people's fanfics. Normally, see, I don't want to come off as too much of a fangirl, hahaha, so I restrain myself, but I do enjoy reading fanfiction and can go on for pages, if necessary. Although it may end up sounding repetitive. ^_^

Argh, stupid physics problem set! ::kicks self back to work::

Yours &c.

The two Shaman King themes, Residue and Umbrella, are my all-time favorites. I read them almost immediately after I had actually started reading the manga, and between the two of them, they basically crystallized my perception of Anna. Coming close in second though is Marionette, that Sakura fic you wrote for [livejournal.com profile] chain_of_fics, and Telephone Line (I know you worried that this was OOC, but it was so beautifully done and it really did feel like Syaoran and Sakura, although perhaps not their usual incarnations). I think what I most liked about all these fics is the poignancy of your writing and the subtlety of your imagery. Your style is clean and simple, yet incredibly evocative: the opening of Umbrella is a good example. I would compare your writing to a perfect spiderweb, all thin silk and delicate lines strung with dew drops. ^_^;; Heh, sorry for the overblown prose. But really, that's the image that I get of your writing! (I have these metaphors for everyone's writing and shall inflict them on people if they venture to ask. XD)

<3 Thank you. I really like Umbrella, Marionette, and Telephone Line too--not so much Residue, but I'm glad you liked it!

Wow, I even get dew drops! XD But yeah, like I said in Tin's journal, I think that 'delicate' thing makes it so that I can't really write anything long. ;_____;

Whoa, so this proved more difficult than I thought. Currently, I am very much delighted with your Eyeshield 21 fics, where your tone and sense of humor is at its most exuberant. But there are so many other fics of yours that I adore! Your Death Note fanfics and your Ishida/Orihime are also particular favorites of mine. I think though that the fic I associate most with your writing are those excerpts of Yoruichi and Urahara as 1920s jazz musicians--there is a sultry sort of intensity from not only the style but also the whole atmosphere of the fic that instantly reminds me of your fics. I imagine your writing as the long slow blink of a dark eye sleekly lined, just before it slyly winks: bold behind its demure lashes. XD

Comment. Eh, everything I've written is located in my memories.

Sorry for taking so long to answer; it took me a while to go through your older fics. ^_^;; Although I have to say that my favorites still are your [livejournal.com profile] chain_of_fics entries, which is where I first read you: Vows to Keep (which was so sad and poignant) and I Am Yours, Mine (which still blows me away when I reread it) in particular. Although what I've read of the 100 100 drabbles are coming a close second and may claw their way to the top once you finish. ^_^ What I like about your writing is its technical versatility: you write these amazing 100-word drabbles that are very tight and concise (and "pack a punch" as I think someone's mentioned before), but you also write these beautiful evocative passages that have lovely imagery as well as just excellent straightforward narration. The image I associate with your writing is, well, painting: your writing is always vivid, whether your "brush strokes" be small or large or even invisible.

*cringe* Perhaps I shouldn't have told you that all my old fics were in my memories. When I signed up for the Remix, I sorted everything I'd ever written into new memory categories so that it would be easier for my Remixer to find my stuff by fandom. While doing so I skimmed some of my old (i.e. HP) stuff and wanted to burn it, inasmuch as one can burn electronic data. Ick. I don't know what's changed, really, but my writing style has changed so much between now and two years ago, and it's not an improvement of the older style so much as it is a shot into a completely different direction. Hmm. But anyway, thank you for the thoughtful, lovely feedback. ^^

Why don't you write more? I've been scrolling through the comments you've been making and your skill with metaphors and imagery is amazing. In just a line or two there's a complete image that stands out and evokes a scene or a feeling of great clarity that causes me to understand just what you mean and what you're saying (the spider silk and the blinking eye in particular).

Well, I do like your writing, and I suppose everyone's embarrassed about their older fanfics, although I don't think yours were cringe-worthy at all. ^_^

::blushes:: Wow, thanks. That's quite possibly the nicest thing anyone has ever said about my writing. I don't write very much because I lack inspiration and motivation. ^_^;; I've always considered myself more of a reader than a writer, and I never can come up with story ideas. But I'm glad to hear that you like the imagery; it's really made my day. XD

Oh, that's easy: My December and Icebreakers, hands down. (I have a feeling a lot of people might have said that to you. ^_^;;) I really like the wry humor in your fics, but also the way you transition from the funny scenes to more serious moments gracefully. The first chapter of Icebreakers is slapstick at its best, and yet the third chapter is almost heartwringing, without any sort of break in continuity. (I also like the way you treat emotional moments subtly: e.g. Tomoyo sewing the jacket.) What I love best though is your characterization: Icebreakers pretty much defined Eriol and Tomoyo for me (as I'm sure they did for a whole lot of other people), and My December has pretty much done the same w/r/t Satoshi and Daisuke. XD
