Lowell House, on the Feast of St. Enda

Someone needs to write a medieval fantasy where the king's court travels from place to place like they did in the early Middle Ages. (We just learned about the Carolingian court culture today in lecture.) I know, I know, there's the King's Progress in The Merlin Conspiracy but that doesn't count because it isn't medieval fantasy, at least not in subgenre.

Despite the existence of [livejournal.com profile] dot_fst_snark, I think [livejournal.com profile] fst has plenty of great FSTs. But occasionally, there comes along a mix surpassing all the rest that takes over your mind and ends up on your repeat list for days and days and days. [livejournal.com profile] fable's The Lions of al-Rassan FST falls in that category. Actually, the liner notes alone moved me enough to download tracks for a book that I had never heard of (although I've read the first two volumes in one of Guy Gavriel Kay's other series), and then I listened to the ST. Instant love. Some of this music really manages to wrench my insensitive little heart. I must read this series as soon as I get the chance.

Taken from [livejournal.com profile] ladydaera, [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin and [livejournal.com profile] klio911 (otherwise known as my lemming instinct):

5 foods you love:
- 갈비 (Korean ribs)
- 설렁탕 (a stew made with bone marrow soup base with beef, noodles and rice; is usually eaten with 깍두기)
- 장어 덥밥 (also known as unagi-don; all [livejournal.com profile] tryogeru's fault)
- 매운탕 (a spicy fish stew, also known as Korean bouillabaise on pretentious restaurant menus)
- 콩나물국 (bean sprout soup; my version of comfort food, particularly when it's reheated leftover soup from last night's dinner with a drop of sesame oil to season and served with 열무김치)

5 favorite dance songs:
(I don't normally dance to music, so I'll just interpret this literally as favorite music that falls under the "dance" genre)
- Kal Ho Naa Ho - It's the Time to Disco (Indian and apparently cheesy, but so, so addictive)
- Pet Shop Boys - Boys and Girls (originally by Blur, but I like the PSB cover better)
- Loveholic - Magic (Korean)
- Abba - Dancing Queen (because I actually danced to it at prom)
- Telefon Tel Aviv - Farenheit Not Enough (I don't know if you can actually dance to it, but it's called "intelligent dance music" so...)

5 favorite places:
- Widener Library
- Union Square Barnes and Noble
- 96th Street branch NYPL
- Mid-Manhattan branch NYPL
- Lowell JCR

5 secrets about you (of a non-explicit, not-that-embarassing nature):
- I have a goddaughter, whose name I constantly misspell.
- When I was in third grade, I actually thought I wanted to be a physicist.
- I've been kissed on the cheek once by a nonrelative who was under twenty years old at the time. (Before you get excited, I was 13, it was a patronizing show of affection from a church oppa, and I secretly hated him.)
- When I was in ninth grade, I once sent an irate email to William Safire in response to one of his New York Times Op-Ed columns. He never responded, alas.
- I once had to participate in a lip sync to the hit H.O.T. song, Candy. (Why I hate and loathe H.O.T. with a passion. That retreat marked a low point in my life.)

5 things you wear every day:
- glasses
- my watch
- um...socks? (Not the same pair, though!)
- sneakers
- ...I don't know!

Whoa, one of your un-bold tags didn't work, unless you're really rough 'n' tough 'n' animal-killing. :)

Also, we need to be in our neighborhood at the same time. This is getting ridiculous.

Oh, and re: neighborhood...yes! I still have your Christmas present; I keep meaning to mail it but haven't had the time to trek down to the post office for envelopes. >_>

Argh, I just realized what both of you were talking about. It doesn't show up as an error on my own blog layout, you see, and I was thinking, "Hm, I thought I fixed the bold tag errors right after I posted..."

Anyway. All fixed. Have fun with physics; I actually haven't even started yet. >_

Ah, 갈비 is definitely one of my favorites. Hooray for Korean BBQ (err, ribs)!
And wow, you've climbed 설악산 before? I've always wanted to see 울산바위... heard it was pretty amazing. I'll climb that mountain and see thar rock when I go back to South Korea someday. ^^;
It's an interesting meme you have there. Maybe I'll snag it. :P

I hope you finish all your work on time, because going to bed early feels so good. There's nothing like some good sleep.
Oh, by the way (out of my curiosity), do you listen to Korean singers? I haven't heard about one in a long time. Any recommendations? XD

I've been back only once, but that was the summer we went to 설악산. I don't remember it very clearly, but I remember the climb was wonderful: I was thrilled by the experience of scrambling over rocks and passing by streams so clear that you could drink from them. ^_^

I only recently started listening to K-pop (over the past year, really), so I don't know how good my recommendations are. I adore 서태지's comeback album, 7th Issue, and I also like Cherry Filter, Clazziquai, Loveholic, Page, 유리상자 and 옥주현. I'm also a huge fan of K-drama soundtracks, because I'm cheesy. ^_^;;

Hoho, if you like meoontang you should definitely try agutang, same sort of thing only made with agu fish and I think only available seasonally? It's delish. It blows other spicy stews out of the water. You'd love it! Although possibly on the expensive side, if I remember correctly. Damn I miss Korean food, especially geranjjim (egg custard) and naengmyun.

Oh, sounds delicious. I should ask my mother if she knows how to make it when I go home for spring break. XD

I'm not a huge fan of geranjjim, but naengmyeon! I forgot to put that on the list! (Probably because it's a summer dish for me.)
