Choosing courses, photos
Sep. 15th, 2005 08:38 pmLowell House, on the Feast of Ste. Catherine of Genoa
My dilemma over choosing courses made more severe by the realization that MCB 190 (Biological Networks, taught by visiting professor Naama Barkai) has been moved from 9 AM to 1 PM. I think I'm still taking it, but now I have to figure out all over again what Core courses will maximize time for research. ::pulls hair:: The problem is, while there are plenty of great courses on Mondays and Wednesdays to choose from, there aren't any Core courses scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday mornings that I unequivocally want to take. Current set of options under consideration:
1. First Nights, which has high CUE ratings, but I've already studied Le sacre du printemps, Symphonie fantastique and Beethoven's 9th in high school and that's three out of five, right there
2. The Political Development of Western Europe, which will probably be very educational but also probably a lot of work, not to mention rather dense reading with endlessly argumentative discussion sections
3. Virgil: Poetry and Reception, which sounds interesting except I already read The Aeneid, the Eclogues and most of the Georgics for Rome of Augustus, freshman year
If I hadn't already fulfilled my Historical Studies B and Literature and Arts C requirements, I wouldn't be in this position. -_-
In more interesting news, I finished putting up some photos from my trip to Korea all the way back in July on Scrapbook. They can be seen here, complete with commentary.
Ugh, I've been in an awful mood all day. Scratch that, I've been in an awful mood all week, with the exception of last night. I don't want classes to start, but I think I really need them to begin so I can settle down into a rhythm instead of hanging about in limbo.
Yours &c.
Post-script: My aunt subscribed me to this "morning letter" which sends an uplifting message to the inboxes of its subscribers every morning at 1 AM. Of course, since I'm all the way here in America, it comes in my inbox at noon. As an example of the sort of uplifting I've had to endure, today's letter says, "Smile at one another. Peace begins with a smile. Give at least five smiles today to that person you would never smile at. Smile, for the sake of peace."
...
My aunt means well, I know, and as I've said, I have a high tolerance for moralizing, but isn't this too trite for words? Ugh, I need to do something suitably mind-numbing. Or sleep. Yes, sleep sounds pretty nice.

Date: 2005-09-16 03:00 am (UTC)Er, this has been an absolutely useless and unhelpful comment. Hope your scheduling problems get ironed out soon.

Date: 2005-09-17 03:57 am (UTC)Ahh, the photos of Korea! I looked at all of them, read all your comments! I haven't been there in four years and a half and I'm feeling nostalgic now. I miss so many people and places. ;__; (You see, most of my mom's family and all of my dad's family members live there.)
And I read your fangirl post on Advent Children! *random* ♥ I want to see it too :D

Date: 2005-09-17 01:05 pm (UTC)Nearly my entire family's in Korea too, except for my parents and me (plus two grown-up cousins I've never seen). Hope you get a chance to go back too someday soon!
Advent Children is gorgeous! Let me know if you need a download link. XD

Date: 2005-09-18 02:36 pm (UTC)Hee, my sympathies. I miss you -- somehow, when I manage to find people here who aren't complete asshats, they're usually the sort of very nice people who would think that uplifting letter was very touching and inspiring. Sigh.
