Lowell House, on the Feast of All Saints

The Hana Yori Dango drama is eating my mind. Doumyoji doing the catwalk in his soldier suit in the second episode! I still can't quite get myself to wholly adore Matsumoto Jun--something about his high cheekbones that I don't entirely like--but he does make me sympathize with Doumyoji. Oh, you poor confused boy. (In contrast, it took me a while to like Doumyoji in the manga. The truth is, the F4 manage to encompass the entire spectrum of personality types I detest. The brilliance of the series, I think, is that I manage to end up liking all of them anyway.) Most of the reactions I've seen around on LJ and D-addicts seem to center around Rui, who is more interesting in the drama than he was in the manga. Nonetheless, I can't stand his orange hair. Shallow of me, I know, but it's like a reflex. I keep thinking the hair is somehow toxic and will radiate gamma waves or something. >_<

Gokusen AU ideas are also eating my mind. I started off trying to set up a vaguely Sherlockian version where Yankumi would be brilliant eccentric detective living in the pea-soup fogs of London (never mind the gender incongruities) and Shin would be the leader of the Baker Street Irregulars. Then I started trying to make the scenario a bit more plausible and ended up writing a page of Regency fic where Shin was sent off to be Yankumi's ward only to discover that she had connections to the largest criminal smuggling ring in--

Anyway, it was rapidly becoming horrifically out-of-character so I quickly closed Notepad before it could evolve into a monster.

I spent last night relaxing by reading the Halloween issue of bb_shousetsu. The stories are all quite gorgeous. Although I must add, the pseudonyms become quite frustrating when you're trying your best to figure out who the author actually is so you can stalk their LJs and read everything else they've ever written. Heh. My absolute favorite would be "The Spell" although "Emerald Tiger" and "Witching Hour" come a close second.

Speaking of which, I still don't have a title for the Four Cats submission. >_> I finished writing the first chapter yesterday, although it sounds more like a prologue than a first chapter. A measly 1,279 words. Clearly, I'm not cut out for long fiction. Still, it looks like what was originally going to be a bunch of loosely connected episodes is actually cohering into a story. Sort of. But I have no title. -_- At this rate, I'm going to call it "Subway" or "The Lock-in" and leave it at that.

Was taking photos for the camera swap today and inadvertently snapped a photo of the inside of my jacket pocket. Oops. -_-

Tomorrow morning, I will get up early, so I can go to the bank and also oil my shinai. (Goal is to oil shinai everyday until Cornell. Watch me fail at this simple resolution out of sheer laziness.) None of this sleeping past the alarm business! I shan't put up with it anymore, malfunctioning circadian rhythm!

Witching Hour was my favorite. I have this feeling team7 wrote it, but the last time I posted guesses all of them were wrong so ^^;; this time I'm keeping quiet.

...Currents is probably absenseofmind. If not her some other Tezuka/Fuji fan.

Runners-up were OF ALL THINGS the miniature plant person porn. Wtf, how did that even work. And two_if_by_sea's ongoing evil lawyer/bi divorcé saga.

AH WAIT NO I did that thing where I confused team7 and petronia again. They aren't that similar, really, except that this one was so Gothic and skipped ahead to present day where both characters were university students. Cafes are a Sabina thing, though.

Yes, I figured out Sabina wrote "Witching Hour" since it was the cover story and all. Also, it's under the same pseudonym she used in the last issue. Did Tin write for this issue? "Snake" reminded me a bit of her style, although there were also enough differences for me to be unsure. I liked two_if_by_sea's story too, and the plant person porn was ingenious and CRAZY. The things people come up with! >_>;; Who wrote that, I wonder? I didn't connect "Currents" with absenceofmind before but now that you mention it I can definitely see the Tezuka/Fuji connection. ^_^ Also want to know who wrote "My Love for One Day" which was another one of my favorites.

Hard to say anything about Snake, since it really seemed like a nod to the style of an author I am not familiar with. It had that, er, same deliberate feeling. I loved the beginning of that story, was less enthusiastic when I still didn't understand what was going on 5,000 words later. What the significance of hatching birds from hand? Was that some kind of metaphor? More importantly, why was Kai crazy? I think it was not understanding the emotions of the characters that bothered me the most, much more than the bizarreness of the setting.

I was totally confused too, which is why it didn't quite make it onto my favorites list, but I did enjoy the writing just for itself...and the Herne imagery at the end sort of started to pull things together, although I think I'll need to read it several more times before I'll understand it. ^_^ I thought Kai was crazy simply from being in the artificial setup of the factory--I thought all the people in the factory were crazy, actually, and he was just more susceptible to it.

Um...can I beg an extension for the photo swap? I still have 5 pictures left, and I don't think you want to see anymore trees, which are really the prettiest things around Wellesley now...Um..I also need to go to CVS to develop it....>_>
