Post-practice rambling
Nov. 5th, 2005 03:50 pmLowell House, on the Feast of Ste. Sylvia
Today, after doing oikomi drills, I had the veteran members be motodachi (receivers) for the new members and built up from basic strikes to kote-men-dou, which was an interesting experience, to say the least. My dou-uchi is awful. Then kakari-geiko for twenty minutes (thanks to Izzy's suggestion), while the new members did uchikomi-geiko. Heh. Five-minute break, then we finished with jigeiko for half an hour. People were pretty exhausted by the kakari-geiko, which probably means we should do it more often. During jigeiko, Daera and I had this weird spurt of energy that made us suddenly start attacking each other aggressively for the entire second half of the match, almost like ai-kakari-geiko. So much fun! Unfortunately, I wore down pretty quickly after that, but it made me realize that my kendo is best when I don't think too much and just attack. Must keep this in mind for shiai. ^_^
Eugenia gave me some good advice on Wednesday about extending more and not letting my right hand slip down on the hilt, which I've been trying to focus on correcting, although it's very hard to correct bad habits when your body is so used to doing things the wrong way. Suburi practice this week for sure. ^_^
I have all these weird bruises, including one nasty purple one on my shin. Where did that come from? And one on the inside of my right upper arm. -_- The blister on my foot started bleeding again, but it's now recoated in Neosporin and looks like it's healing. It better heal before Cornell or else! ::glares at left foot::
I am so hungry, and not just because it's after practice. I'm hungry all the time these days, and I think it's a sign that I'm not eating enough. I've been trying to increase my meal portions, but sometimes the dining hall just doesn't have enough edible food. I've also been trying to increase my protein intake as per Izzy's suggestion. But no matter how much I eat, I still get hungry at night. It's so strange. I'm going to go out and buy some random foodstuffs that I can keep in my room for snacking. Geez, I wish I were at home so I can stuff myself properly on rice and stew. Nothing's ever quite as filling as Korean food. ^_^
Yours &c.
