Fics and movies

So
murinae, who is the queen of Hikaru no Go fanfiction, has written this amazing fic for me! It is heartbreaking but wonderful, and I sobbed over it. Alas, it's friends-locked at the moment, but I think the final version will be posted publicly (or so I hope, anyway), and besides, if you're in Hikago fandom and you haven't friended Muri yet, whyever not? ^_^ (Wait, is "whyever" a word? Oh well.) Anyway, go read it, if you haven't already!
Also, tons of great Bleach fic from
cynic_in_charge and
lacewood, who I swear should be paid just to write fic because their ideas are pure genius.
In other news, I spent Friday watching Korean films, one of which turned out to be the weirdest film I've ever seen. The two main characters don't speak a word of dialogue to each other throughout the entire movie. The premise is that this man breaks into empty houses and lives in them until the inhabitants come back, at which point he moves onto the next empty house he finds. He doesn't steal anything and leaves the house entirely undisturbed, other than fixing broken machines and doing all the laundry by hand. Why he does it by hand instead of using a washing machine is never made clear. So, he breaks into an apparently empty house, not realizing that in fact a woman is still there. For the next few days, he goes through his usual routine, eating from the fridge, fixing the scale, doing the woman's leftover laundry, while the woman spies on him unseen. She finally reveals herself, and at first he runs away, but then comes back. She has bruises over half her face; it's clear that she's been beaten by her husband. Her husband comes back and ends up being beaten up by golf balls because the man is not only good at fixing gadgets and doing laundry but also very, very good at golf (golf balls become a motif throughout the film, although what it's supposed to represent is beyond me). The woman leaves with the man and joins him in his routine of finding empty houses to live in. They never speak a word to each other but clearly fall in love. Finally, they break into an apartment where the inhabitant, an old man, has died quietly in his bedroom, and although they give the corpse a proper funeral, they get caught by the grandfather's children, who immediately call for the police. The police eventually figure out that the two haven't done anything wrong, but the woman is identified, and her husband pays the police a lot of money to have the man she ran away with incarcerated. While in prison, the man practices becoming "invisible": first he hides from the guard's line of sight, then he climbs up the wall, then he practices "shadowing" the guard so that he can't be seen except by his shadow, and finally, in a really weird twist, he somehow really manages to move about completely unseen. He returns to the woman's house, and although the husband senses someone's there, only the woman can see him. The film ends with the words, "It's difficult to tell the difference between dream and reality."
Seriously, a very weird film. It's called 빈집 ("Empty House"), and apparently it won awards at the Vienna Film Festival (well, it does scream artsiness, so I'm not surprised). The lead female actor is 이승연 (Lee Seung-yeon), who used to be really popular and starred in nearly every other drama a few years back, although you don't see her much these days. I remember her best for her role in the KBS drama 첫사랑 ("First Love"), which remains to this day my most favorite drama ever. The lead male actor is 재희 (Jaehee), who's probably better known to you all for playing Mong-ryong in the drama Sassy Chun-hyang. Anyway, worth seeing as long as you don't mind feeling incredibly confused.
Yesterday, I went to karaoke with
aetherangelette. I am proud to announce that five songs off of Nemesis' first album are already available on karaoke machines. Whee! I could only manage to sing two of them though. >_> Also, we celebrated my father's birthday (it's actually today, but we decided to push it a day early so I'd be around for the birthday cake), which involved a delicious mocha chiffon cake and a bottle of Portuguese red port, bought on the recommendation of the local liquor store. It was very sweet and very alcoholic: three swallows was enough to make me feel slightly dizzy and go to sleep early at 9:30. Yes, I have no tolerance. Still, it was 19% alcohol and made my ears fume. Next time, my father says, we're sticking to the semisweet red wine that we usually get. No, my family knows nothing about wine or how to enjoy it, but we usually get a bottle for my father's birthday because he actually likes alcohol. I usually take a couple of sips from the glass without any effect, but that port was pretty intense.
All the excitement over
yuletide is making me envious. Is there anything similar in place for animanga fandoms? Or does anyone want to organize one?
Yours &c.
