NaNo redux (lack of) progress report
Dec. 5th, 2005 10:45 pmLowell House, on the Feast of St. Gerald
Current word count: 1,538/50,000. (Please don't laugh.) I really am incapable of writing more than 800 or so words of fiction at a time. -_- After three hours of typing away diligently, I managed to write a paragraph of original fic, a sentence for a themed drabble, about 1/3 of that still-unfinished Sai and Hikaru fic, and well, this bit of Akiha/Umeda fluff. Probably inspired by perusing
tomomichi's writing LJ.
Their days are like grass
Umeda is sprawled back in his chair, with his arm over his eyes and a tired droop to his mouth. Akiha stops in the doorway to admire the sight: his hands frame the photograph he would take if he had his camera with him. As it is, he can only note the mellow color of Senpai’s bright hair in the dappled afternoon light, the crispness of his white coat against the limpness of his white neck, the melancholy expression of his unmoving face.
Akiha tiptoes through the office and sits on the floor by the chair, soundlessly drawing his knees up to his chin and resting his head, ever so gently, against the edge of Senpai’s chair. He closes his eyes, feels the light breeze from the window against his cheeks. It is an all-too-temporary moment, he knows, for soon Senpai will wake and push him away all the more vigorously for having seen him in such a vulnerable position.
Akiha smiles and shifts his head a little closer to Senpai’s knee.
END
How the heck did I write so much during August? Although come to think of it, my entire August output doesn't come anywhere near 50,000 words.
In the meanwhile, some excellent fics that have appeared on my friends list tonight:
How to Live by
jaebi_lit (Homeric Hymn to Demeter)
she is not a wolf by
faeryetale (Mononoke Hime)
the stories he could tell: 20 facts about Chad by
lacewood (Bleach)
Yours &c.
Post-script: You know what's been odd about this LJ lately? I haven't made a science post in months! Even though I've attended some really good MCB lectures recently and even though I've had two successful batches of microarray experiments. Hm. Well, that should change once I start studying for the MCB 155 final. Oh, and I wanted to post my thoughts on the Hwang Woo-suk scandal too. More on that later.
