Lowell House on the Feast of St. Gregory III

A truly horrific sight greeted me today in the bathroom.

Isn't it horrible? I swear, the thing was at least two inches long, the result I'm sure of years of selective pressure from exterminators and roach spray-wielding college students.

I am proud to say that I didn't scream like a girl. No, instead I calmly went for my camera (which probably only goes to show how weird I am), snapped this photo just as it scrambled over the curtain, got my roommate so we could quietly freak out together, and tried to kill it with a boot. Alas, I did not succeed, which means that monstrous bug is still running about in my bathroom somewhere. -_-

Oh, and I went across the hall and used [livejournal.com profile] ladydaera and [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin's shower. Thank goodness for blockmates who live close by.

Yours &c.

I know! I like bugs too, normally. Heck, I used to like cockroaches until I learned that creepy enormous versions like this existed. Aagggghhhh.

YYYYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

That's me screaming like a girl. Goodness know s I would have done it if I saw that mutated monster about to attack me like that. Then I would instead of grabbing my camera, would systematically burn/disinfect everything it could have touched then seal the bathroom off from the rest of my room with duct tape. Biohazard ya kno.

I probably would systematically burn/disinfect everything, if it didn't mean that I'd have to go back in there. Augh.

Not too bad by sub-tropics standards... What you have to watch out for is when they start flying around and landing on you.

O_O Ack, that's even worse.

Now I have something to be grateful for: at least these cockroaches don't fly.

I dunno. It kind of looks like the most common species we have here....which can fly, though not v. well.

I would recommend buying a sticky trap.

Also try buying the traps that have bait so that the roaches can take it into their hiding places and spread the poison.

Bug spray tends to slow these guys down so you can smash them...nevertheless, they tend to be hardy critters.

Haha, we did freak out quite a bit, although most of it was us going, "Oh my gawd" at each other while I chased after it with a boot. I don't know where it went though...maybe it'll go back to its hole and never come back? ::wishful thinking::

pst: Cockroach bait traps work better than spray ... they'll bring the stuff back behind the walls and kill other cockroaches. Just make sure you have it in an area with no pets. Sticky traps are a mess. >_<

I used to live above a yakitori. They come in ... bigger sizes.

Oh, ew! (you poor, brave soul.)

That reminds me of the time I was cleaning the bookstore basement and I found this enormous (dead, thank goodness) bug. I ran upstairs and cried, with all due drama: "Quick! I've found the corpse of Gregor Samsa!"

...Luckily, there weren't any customers yet.
