Through the headphones

As you probably noticed, I posted my entry for
naljwrimo2006 a couple of days ago. The word count was 12,843, proving that while it takes me forever to write about a 1,000 words of fic, it takes me only about three days to write more than ten times that amount. >_>
I just downloaded this song via a link from Pitchfork: The Glass Family - Swimming in Fiction
The Salinger reference was what caught my attention at first, but this song is fabulous in every sense of the word. I've been listening to it on repeat for the past half hour, and it's reminded me all over again why I like indie rock so much. Listen to it now.
I need to visit Pitchfork more often.
My father and I were discussing our different tastes in music during intersession, and he told me that since he's rather tonedeaf, he only listens to songs for their lyrics. I'm the complete opposite: I don't pay attention to lyrics at all unless they are bad enough to intrude on my appreciation of the instrumentals. (That may be why I find it difficult to listen to rap and hip hop.) I classify my musical preferences in two categories: songs I like to listen to and songs I like to sing along to. The two are not mutually exclusive, and when a song that falls in both groups comes along, I can listen to it for hours on end. This is one of those songs.
Other fairly recent discoveries: Gregor Samsa, Biosphere
What am I doing surfing mp3 blogs when I should be doing homework? Back to phylogeny.
Yours &c.
