Final final

I took my last final today. For some reason the relief hasn't quite hit yet. But at last, I'm finished with junior year! This afternoon, I went to Tokyo Kid and spent the $10 coupon
klio911 gave me on a My Neighbor Totoro wall scroll. Ironically, I haven't even watched My Neighbor Totoro yet although I've heard enough about it to catch any references. I think I spent an hour in that store trying to figure out what I wanted to buy.
Unfortunately, almost everything in the store at the moment is for Naruto and Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist--all series that I enjoy very much, of course, but not so much that I want to buy more merchandise for them. (I already have a Bleach keychain and several Naruto posters. And while a pair of Roy Mustang gloves might be kind of nifty, what would I do with them anyway?) What I really wanted was a new cell phone strap but the only decent one was for Byakuya, and I couldn't convince myself that it was nice enough that I would want to spend money on it. I ended up going with the wall scroll because I figured we needed some sort of decoration for our common room next year, and the one I picked out was the most tasteful as well as compatible with my roommates.
Also the real problem is that I'm a total cheapskate when it comes to buying anything. I only make impulse purchases and only when I've convinced myself that I really want the item in question. Furthermore, I have a self-imposed $20 restriction on myself; if something costs more than that, my internal budgeting system protests at the extravagance. Also, it doesn't help that I recently splurged on buying myself Never Let Me Go and His Majesty's Dragon from the Coop, which means I'm in an unusually miserly mood. The only occasions when I don't feel so hampered is when I'm buying gifts for people, which is why I rather like giving things to people.
All this talk of money reminds me that I need to be on a tight budget this summer if I want to go to Gasshuku on my own money. -_- It would be easier if I knew how much my financial aid package was for next year. Ugh, I can't wait for grad school so I don't have to go through the trauma of learning exactly what the state of my family's finances are every year.
I took an extended nap all afternoon and evening, so I haven't made that head start on packing like I planned. Tomorrow's schedule:
...I haven't eaten dinner yet, have I? I should go do that. Goal for tonight: catch up on updating the reading blog. Yes, it's still alive just immensely delayed. I had to update to WordPress 2.0 last week because I was getting hit with so many spam comments (version 2.0 has a spam filter plug-in called Akismet which has done wonders for my sanity), which messed up the LJ feed for a while. I'm behind by 15 books...I hope I remember what I had to say about all of them. I really need to keep up-to-date in the future. I suppose it's a mercy I don't keep track of rereads because then I'll really be swamped.
Yours &c.

Date: 2006-05-23 06:24 pm (UTC)It's better to save money for the things you really really want, than spend it on any old thing that'll probably just take up space in a packing box.
Enjoy your summer!
