Real life update

Guess who has tickets to the OK Go concert in Boston next Thursday? It's taking place at the Avalon, sponsored by the Boston Phoenix for its fortieth anniversary, and they're giving out free tickets. Of course, admission is first come, first serve. (OK Go, for the unenlightened, are the geniuses behind the treadmill dance video, which
schwimmerin and I watched obsessively this summer.)
At this rate, I might be developing an approximation of a social life. Consider if you will:
1. Kirov Ballet performance of Swan Lake this afternoon with my two roommates. (Because kendo practice was canceled for Veterans' Day. Actually, my roommates tell me that the MAC isn't, in fact, closed, but whatever, it's probably too late for the captains to take back their announcement anyway.) I hope this performance makes up for the American Ballet Theatre's disastrous Swan Lake that I saw this summer (I ranted about it here).
2. Leverett 80s Dance tonight! It'll be my first time going to a casual dance in college (the only other dance I've been to was the Yule Ball, which was a formal event).
3. The aforementioned OK Go concert next Thursday.
4. Hunter reunion for Harvard-Yale next Friday.
5. Harvard-Yale football game next Saturday. Another first, because I've...never been to a football game before. I don't even know how football works, except for whatever rudimentary knowledge I've picked up from Eyeshield 21. -_-
Also, I finally watched Battle Royale last night. The actor who plays Nanahara Shuya is the same actor for Yagami Light in the live-action Death Note movie. (Is that available in subs yet? Because I really, really want to watch it.) Battle Royale was not half as gory as I had expected it to be. Still tremendously violent, but it wasn't disturbing the way reading Lord of the Flies was, thanks to the occasional cheese and the overall happy ending.
I actually have quite a bit of work to do this month so I'm not sure if having things-that-are-not-homework to do every weekend is exactly for the best. -_- Oh well, it shouldn't be a problem if I cut down on my Internet procrastination (hahaha, like that's going to happen). Anyway, apologies in advance if I become delinquent about commenting or replying to comments for the next several weeks.
I'm in such karaoke withdrawal, by the way. (
angelyrique, you'll be free from interviews during Thanksgiving, right? ;_;)
Yours &c.

Date: 2006-11-11 04:39 pm (UTC)I'm trying to get tickets to the game as we speak :). I can't believe you haven't been to the Harvard-Yale game before! Well, not that I have either, but you presumably have pretty easy access to tickets!

Date: 2006-11-11 11:37 pm (UTC)Hm...5 bucks an hour? *_* (Then...that means we could be there all day. XD) Do the Japanese songs have romaji? XD;; I'd definitely go, poor selection or not, as long as they had some songs I knew. The ones in Allston are more expensive than Flushing (surprise, surprise) despite being much more ghetto.

Date: 2006-11-11 09:48 pm (UTC)I wouldn't recommend the BR manga at all because it's ... pretty bizarre ... but if you'd like to read the novel sometime, let me know and I'll lend you my copy? The translation has its problems, but I find it works a lot better as a satire of Japanese society than the movie does.
