Lowell House, on the Feast of St. Martin of Tours

Guess who has tickets to the OK Go concert in Boston next Thursday? It's taking place at the Avalon, sponsored by the Boston Phoenix for its fortieth anniversary, and they're giving out free tickets. Of course, admission is first come, first serve. (OK Go, for the unenlightened, are the geniuses behind the treadmill dance video, which [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin and I watched obsessively this summer.)

At this rate, I might be developing an approximation of a social life. Consider if you will:

1. Kirov Ballet performance of Swan Lake this afternoon with my two roommates. (Because kendo practice was canceled for Veterans' Day. Actually, my roommates tell me that the MAC isn't, in fact, closed, but whatever, it's probably too late for the captains to take back their announcement anyway.) I hope this performance makes up for the American Ballet Theatre's disastrous Swan Lake that I saw this summer (I ranted about it here).

2. Leverett 80s Dance tonight! It'll be my first time going to a casual dance in college (the only other dance I've been to was the Yule Ball, which was a formal event).

3. The aforementioned OK Go concert next Thursday.

4. Hunter reunion for Harvard-Yale next Friday.

5. Harvard-Yale football game next Saturday. Another first, because I've...never been to a football game before. I don't even know how football works, except for whatever rudimentary knowledge I've picked up from Eyeshield 21. -_-

Also, I finally watched Battle Royale last night. The actor who plays Nanahara Shuya is the same actor for Yagami Light in the live-action Death Note movie. (Is that available in subs yet? Because I really, really want to watch it.) Battle Royale was not half as gory as I had expected it to be. Still tremendously violent, but it wasn't disturbing the way reading Lord of the Flies was, thanks to the occasional cheese and the overall happy ending.

I actually have quite a bit of work to do this month so I'm not sure if having things-that-are-not-homework to do every weekend is exactly for the best. -_- Oh well, it shouldn't be a problem if I cut down on my Internet procrastination (hahaha, like that's going to happen). Anyway, apologies in advance if I become delinquent about commenting or replying to comments for the next several weeks.

I'm in such karaoke withdrawal, by the way. ([livejournal.com profile] angelyrique, you'll be free from interviews during Thanksgiving, right? ;_;)

Yours &c.

Hunter reunion? Who's coming?

I'm trying to get tickets to the game as we speak :). I can't believe you haven't been to the Harvard-Yale game before! Well, not that I have either, but you presumably have pretty easy access to tickets!

No clue. Presumably the Harvard students on campus at the very least? Jenny Tsai is organizing it; should I ask her to put you on the list?

And yeah, I know, I know. But it's not like I have any interest in football to begin with. XD

How are you a senior at Harvard and you've NEVER been to a Harvard-Yale game? I think that's weird XD Speaking of karoke, there is this Japanese place in midtown that is soooo much cheaper than the Korean ones, but their selection of Korean songs is so-so and their English songs are totally ghetto--muddled text on a blue screen. But still, like 5 bucks an HOUR OMG~

I live a sad, deprived life? XD;; Well, at least I'm making sure to go before I graduate. To be honest though, I have zero interest in football, even if it is a game with our greatest rival.

Hm...5 bucks an hour? *_* (Then...that means we could be there all day. XD) Do the Japanese songs have romaji? XD;; I'd definitely go, poor selection or not, as long as they had some songs I knew. The ones in Allston are more expensive than Flushing (surprise, surprise) despite being much more ghetto.

Make sure you watch Battle Royale II in all its terrorist, anti-American glory! XD

Also... WHY DID I NOT KNOW YOU WERE IN CAMBRIDGE?! We must meet up somewhere when I go home for Christmas. I'll probably go up to Boston to leech off [livejournal.com profile] gothic_hamlet for a couple weeks, and I'll definately do my biannual Death By Book Off shopping frenzy (SHUT UP! THEY'RE TOTALLY CHRISTMAS PRESENTS!!) in NYC if you want to take the train down for our mutually assured destruction... of our bank accounts.

Battle Royale II? Ooh, will try to dig that up. XD

I might be back in NY myself for Christmas break, but yes, let's meet up! I am definitely up for Book Off shopping sprees. ^_____^

It was surprisingly painless: you sign up here. Tickets are free but they don't guarantee admission (that's first come, first serve), so they're probably not sold out yet. ^_^

Hee, BR II is fantastic in a way where you have no idea whatsoever is going on and yet, you plunge onwards. (Best friend and I watched it twice over Christmas break last year. Neither of us had any idea whatsoever was going on--and she's fluent in Japanese. *g*)

I wouldn't recommend the BR manga at all because it's ... pretty bizarre ... but if you'd like to read the novel sometime, let me know and I'll lend you my copy? The translation has its problems, but I find it works a lot better as a satire of Japanese society than the movie does.

Interesting coincidence, I've just started reading the Battle Royale manga. Not my favourite art style but the story sounds interesting. :) And pfft. Social lives are always cool. I'd pick a concert over writing my Macbeth essay anyday (probably a good thing I don't have the option then).

The movie is insanely great, you should watch it. ^_^ Social lives are cool, but alas, I've never really possessed one, outside of kendo parties and the occasional roommate outing. XD

Which was I supposed to comment on... The Karaoke or the social life?

Well, at this point, you have a better social life than I do. Mine consists of 3 things. Sighs

Karaoke, I hope... or I'll cry. I have new songs! xD

Timeless? Oh that song you were raving about a while back?

Did you know I've practically memorized the lyrics to 아린's "Question"? Also, I want to try more Cherry Filter and 이안.

Yes! It's my first The Game ever, too, even though a friend came down to stay with me last year (we're neither of us American football people, so we walked around and went through used bookstores, enjoying the quiet since it was like the entire university was off at the football thing). My parents and sib are coming up to Boston for the game in some sort of festive school spirit-y thing.

Neat! Do you want to try to meet up? It might be a bit difficult to navigate through the crowds, but hopefully this time, I'll have my cell phone on. ^_^
