Holiday drabbles
Jan. 8th, 2007 12:40 pmSherman Fairchild, on the Feast of St. Apollinaris
All right, I can stop being coy and actually post up the holiday drabbles that I wrote on Christmas cards.
My first attempt at fic for the Jojo fandom:
On Parasites
Written for
magicnoire,
petronia and
sub_divided
Christmas at the Joestar estate was ever an elaborate affair: the entire mansion decorated in ribbons and wreathes and candles, with the scent of gingerbread and cinnamon permeating the air.
"Where shall we place the Christmas tree?" asked Jonathan, as he and Dio carried in the ten-foot tall fir on their shoulders.
"There by the window, if you please, Master Jonathan."
As they set down the tree, Dio reached out and plucked an odd spray of leaves clinging to the branches. "Careful, Joestar, this could have stabbed you in the eye."
"Oh, what is it?"
"Mistletoe." Dio gave him an enigmatic smile, as he twirled the plant in his fingers.
END
Note: Mistletoe being not only a parasitic plant but also the instrument of Baldur's murder by Loki. Oh, and people kiss under it at Christmastime too. ^_^
The following, I confess with absolutely no shame, is sheer OTP fluff:
Holding Hands

It was already dark when they got on the train after a particularly long exhibition game, which had ended as usual with Shindou sticking out his tongue at Touya, who responded by throwing one of the large plastic display stones at him, in front of the bewildered audience.
Their breath fogged and mingled in the air as they sat side by side, huddled in their coats.
"My hands are cold," Shindou complained.
"You shouldn't have forgotten your gloves," Touya replied unsympathetically.
"Bah, gloves are for the weak!"
Touya rolled his eyes and did not answer, but a short while later, Shindou felt a mittened hand wrap around his and tuck it securely into a warm coat pocket. When he looked over, Touya had his face turned away, studying what seemed to be an advertisement for shampoo with rapt interest.
Shindou smiled and leaned back in his seat. His hand stayed warm for the rest of the ride back to Tokyo.

lacewood sent me links to Rurouni Kenshin AUs on fanfiction.net, and this drabble was the unfortunate result:
Shall We Dance
Written for

"Miss Kamiya, may I have the pleasure of this dance?"
Kaoru glanced up in surprise. The man who had spoken in such genteel tones was dressed in last year's fashion, and the color of his coat clashed with his shock of red hair. But the cadre of society mamas behind her immediately began to whisper excitedly, and Megumi, with a triumphant smile, gave her a sharp poke in the back.
"Well, what are you waiting for?" Megumi hissed into her ear. "That's only Lord Himura, Earl Battousai, known to possess a fabulous fortune /and/ the romance of a tragic, mysterious past! He hasn't set foot on the dance floor for years. What a catch for your first dance of the Season!"
At her prodding, Kaoru took a nervous step forward. Lord Himura smiled at her kindly, his white-gloved hand held out gracefully. She looked into his face again and saw that the smile did not reach his dark blue eyes, which still seemed haunted by some nameless sorrow.
She took his hand and curtsied.

The remaining three cards (for Meg, Cat and Amy) had a Prince of Tennis drabble, but I'm not sure if the recipients have gotten them yet, so I'll post that later.
Yours &c.

Date: 2007-01-11 01:02 pm (UTC)I have a huge weakness for Regency!AUs. (Well, AUs in general, but Regency period especially). I have to admit, I didn't get around to reading Rurouni Kenshin after starting kendo freshman year. ^_^;; Speaking of which, yay, we're all looking forward to your triumphant return! I lay dibs on your first jigeiko.
