Enderverse news
Aug. 1st, 2002 10:53 amAd Mundo Exteriore,
Reading Ender's Game again, and nearly sobbing, because I'm at the end of the book. WAH! I think I'm going to read it again as soon as I'm finished. I'm so obsessed with this book.
You know what's really, really cool? A couple of fans--who help run The Philotic Web by the way--drew up these detailed plans for the Battle School and how it would realistically work according to the laws of physics, not the laws of whatever Orson Scott Card can dream up in his head. They built 3D models and made blueprints and did a presentation at Endercon. OSC was so impressed he put them in touch with the director for the upcoming Ender's Game movie, Wolfgang Peterson. That is just...just...words fail to describe how wonderful OSC is to his fans. ^_^
Want some spoilers for the movie? It's going to focus more on the rivalry and friendship between Ender and Bean; it's going to include Sister Carlotta as a regular presence at the Battle School; the Buggers are going to be in the habit of mentally bombarding the brightest young commanders at the Battle School (which means Ender and Bean, and a lot of drama about "Can they hold up? Are they strong enough?" ::suspenseful music in the background::); Ender's going to be originally from Greensboro, not "the city," which sucks because I always imagined the city to be a larger New York; and finally Mazer Rackham will be Colonel Graff. Oh, and I think Major Anderson, who was going to be a woman, is cut out of the movie now. Don't know for sure of course. But OSC is working on the script right now! And not anything else! It's his first priority! You have no idea how great and fabulous that is! ::looks back at past sentences:: They do say that multiple exclamation marks is the sign of a diseased mind. Oops.
As an Ender fan, there is no better time to be alive than right now. OSC signed a contract for the sequel to CotM, so that means he has to write it. They'll begin producing the movie as soon as the director finishes shooting Batman vs. Superman. (As if anyone wants to watch that.) You know what's really interesting? OSC was going to insist on his movie contract that they hire a racially mixed cast, as in, less than half will be white actors, to accurately represent the multinational population of the Battle School. And Warner Brothers said no, because no one would see it then. O_O Anyway, back to the good news: and of course, Shadow Puppets is coming out August 19! I know I've told you all this already in emails and in person, but I'm going to go on and on about it anyway. Goodness knows I have the right to, after listening to Lyd-chan and Kaydee ramble about LotR. Not that I don't like LotR. I'm obsessed with Middle-Earth too. Just not as obsessed about the movie. Trust me, it takes a lot to be as obsessed as Lyd-chan. ^_^
Hm, what news? None really...I'm finally getting my tuberculin booster shot today. Ick.
Oh, I read a cute original manga yesterday, about the romance between a jester and a prince in a neighboring kingdom. Sounds dumb, but the author spent all her time on these lavish descriptions of the jester's costumes, makeup and performances. They were pretty well written too. Now I want to see it in actual visual form...here's the link, if you're interested: Fanfiction.Net Story: Fireworks. C'mon, go read. It's only 24 chapters. ::evil grin::
Hm...I think I'll go back to reading Ender's Game. I'm at the tearful parting scene with Alai, Bean, Petra and the rest of the jeesh. ::sniffles::
