Ad Mundo Exteriore,

So I went to the CSA Open House, which apparently does not serve dinner. -_- I wanted free food! Oy vey! What happened? So I'm sitting in front of my computer, eating microwave rice (which is surprisingly delicious) with the side dishes Mother left me in the microfridge. Anyway, the Open House was incredibly intimidating because not only was I the only Asian but also I was surrounded by all these very typical-looking teenagers who probably went to typical high schools and did typical teenager things and went to typical teenager parties...There are a lot of, for the lack of a better word, "normal" people at Harvard. It's disturbing, especially after HPTF's weirdness. I mean, I've always hung out with freaks and weirdos of some sort or another, so this social atmosphere is really intimidating. Everyone of course is horribly intelligent, many of them probably more intelligent than me, but their...er...subculture? is too different.

Still, they're nice, I suppose, and I do get along with the math and science people here. ^_^ Even if half of them are pre-med.

I'd like to say that I took the Korean placement test this morning, and it was surprisingly easy. Well, I'm sure I made a lot of mistakes, but I think I will indeed place into intermediate level. The professor looked over my written test while I was waiting to take the oral part of the exam and asked a couple of questions. I am pretty much fluent in speaking, but I was surprised when he told me that both my speaking and reading were actually at the advanced level. (Then he said my writing didn't quite make the cut, but still!) I was really pleased because I'm an abominably slow reader in Korean. It doesn't help that I'm pretty fast in English and get impatient if I don't read ten pages a minute. (Well, that's probably an exaggerated speed but...) That's actually why I have trouble reading nonfiction books without skipping chapters and skimming sections. >_>

We got our placement results, and I was pleased to see that I was placed appropriately in math. ^_^ I think I'll have a really easy courseload fall semester, unless my first-choice seminar turns out to be challenging. (But do I have a problem with that? Of course not!) I mean, I don't think I'll have too much trouble with intermediate Korean, and I've gone through multivariable calculus and linear algebra once before, even if I didn't really learn it properly. (The day before the Honors Mathematics final, Annie took out the 21a final, and we all laughed bitterly over how straightforward it was.) So perhaps for once in her life, Tari will not have killer courseloads. That's just for the fall though. Spring may be another story.
