Sherman Fairchild, on the Feast of St. Paul Miki and companions

I don't usually remember Valentine's Day until I start hearing people around me start complaining about their lack of significant others...but I'm a sheep when it comes to memes:

My Valentinr - tarigwaemir
Get your own valentinr

Besides, it's a rather cute setup, isn't it? It reminds me of elementary school when we still used to send valentines to everyone in the class, as [livejournal.com profile] schwimmerin likes to say. I used to put considerable time and effort in mine, since my mother and I put them together by hand. No mass-produced commercial cards for us! We cut out red construction paper hearts and pasted them on white paper doilies, which were subsequently decorated in gold and red glitter. I was really fond of glitter back then. I don't think I was quite insane enough to write a personalized message for each recipient, although that was an important part of my family's gift-giving ethic. (In middle school, I wrote little inscriptions in my calligraphy pen on the inside covers of the books I gave to my friends as birthday presents.)

Anyway, I went back through my friends list and tried to leave a message for everyone who had a valentinr, but just in case I missed yours, leave a link.

Following up on the last post, no, the next university president hasn't been selected yet, and yes, both emails were hoaxes. The relevant Crimson articles here: Lampoon Recycles Already Lame Hoax and No Decision on Next President.

Speaking of which, I checked my webstats and found that an interesting side effect of hosting LJ layout image files on your own server is that you can get a rough count of visitors to the page, although it doesn't work if they're viewing it from their friends page or using ?style=mine. It also doesn't account for successive hits if the browser caches the images.

Yours &c.
