Procrastinating on thesis-writing

I don't usually remember Valentine's Day until I start hearing people around me start complaining about their lack of significant others...but I'm a sheep when it comes to memes:

Get your own valentinr
Besides, it's a rather cute setup, isn't it? It reminds me of elementary school when we still used to send valentines to everyone in the class, as
schwimmerin likes to say. I used to put considerable time and effort in mine, since my mother and I put them together by hand. No mass-produced commercial cards for us! We cut out red construction paper hearts and pasted them on white paper doilies, which were subsequently decorated in gold and red glitter. I was really fond of glitter back then. I don't think I was quite insane enough to write a personalized message for each recipient, although that was an important part of my family's gift-giving ethic. (In middle school, I wrote little inscriptions in my calligraphy pen on the inside covers of the books I gave to my friends as birthday presents.)
Anyway, I went back through my friends list and tried to leave a message for everyone who had a valentinr, but just in case I missed yours, leave a link.
Following up on the last post, no, the next university president hasn't been selected yet, and yes, both emails were hoaxes. The relevant Crimson articles here: Lampoon Recycles Already Lame Hoax and No Decision on Next President.
Speaking of which, I checked my webstats and found that an interesting side effect of hosting LJ layout image files on your own server is that you can get a rough count of visitors to the page, although it doesn't work if they're viewing it from their friends page or using ?style=mine. It also doesn't account for successive hits if the browser caches the images.
Yours &c.

Date: 2007-02-07 04:24 pm (UTC)But come to think of it, I don't remember there being any exchange in fifth grade after I moved to New York. Maybe it's a suburban vs. urban school thing? It would be too difficult given most city school class sizes to bring 30-40 valentines, after all.

Date: 2007-02-07 11:37 pm (UTC)first grade, i believe my first experience with v-day craziness at school. i think my cards were store-bought, but my mom helped me sign them. and since she is of an upbringing and tradition FOUR THOUSAND times less self-concious about this kind of thing than that of the u.s., she thought nothing of having me sign all my cards "love, isabel".
next day: "EWWWWW SHE SAID SHE LOVES YOU!" "nuh-UH, she loves YOU!" total uproar and chaos! granted, it was probably only two or three ridiculous boys (i may even remember who), but it was mildly traumatizing!
end of story. happy v-day in advance. :D
