Lowell House, on the Feast of St. Blaise
I am so flabbergasted. Larry Summers is being reinstated as university president. What?!
Personally, I have nothing against Larry Summers, although I do think he is undiplomatic and I did feel rather betrayed when he made his less-than-tactful comments on the subject of women in science. But clearly the Faculty of Arts and Sciences do have something against him, so I have no idea how the search committee decided he was the best choice.
Also, why go through the bother of kicking out someone if you're only going to put him back?! Talk about bureaucratic ineptness!
(Darn it, I was kind of hoping Elena Kagan would get the job.)
Yours &c.
Post-script: And now people are saying it's a joke. Wow, some people really have time on their hands. Anyway, I hope it's a joke, in bad taste or not, because that would make a lot more sense. -_-
Post-post-script: It's now confirmed...it was a joke. And Elena Kagan will be the next president of the university. Hurrah! (She's a Hunter alum and spoke at my high school graduation.)
Post-post-post-script: Oh sheesh, now people are saying that the email from the Dean's office saying that the first email was a joke is itself a hoax. Argh! Okay, I admit it's a good prank, and my roommates and I were fooled by both emails. I'm going automatically stop believing any more news I hear on this issue until I read the Crimson on Monday. (You know, I bet at other schools they go partying or something along those lines during the first weekend of the semester. Here, people spend the unexpected free time on their hands perpetrating email hoaxes. Huh, we must be turning into MIT. ^_^)
