If you'd like to do as the Romans do

"Is this sort of excess really necessary?" Aziraphale asked rather uncomfortably, adjusting his toga as he sat down awkwardly.

Crowley rolled his eyes and lounged back in his couch. "Oh, would you just live a little? Trust me, you won't find a feast like this in Heaven."

"No earthly sustenance is necessary when we are perpetually nourished in the love of God," Aziraphale replied piously. "Are those candied figs? And snails drowned in milk?"

Crowley grinned and passed him the platter. "Remember, it's polite to leave the room to vomit."

Aziraphale gave him a severe look. "Gluttony is a deadly sin, Crowley. You shouldn't encourage people so." He reached for a fig. "Still, a little indulgence is allowed from time to time."

Crowley gave a hissing laugh and bit into his pomegranate with gusto.

You have to love the juxtaposition. It's perfectly Aziraphale. XD

Hah, Aziraphale and Count D could decimate a bakery. Though I guess Count D would be more comfortable in a dress (toga, whatever). ^_^

Though I'm not sure I'd ever bite into a pomegranate, those inner membranes are pretty bitter, I bet all the purply-red juices squirting out and running down his chin would be positively demonic.

Ah, good point. I didn't really think the choice of fruit through (at the moment I was looking at the Wikipedia article on Roman cuisine and thought kind of vaguely, "Oh yeah, pomegranates, fruit of the underworld, Crowley, that matches.") Maybe I'll replace it with "nibble"? Although I can't imagine Crowley nibbling at anything. Hrm.

(Thanks for all the comments! <3)

Hm...I like the idea of pomegranate, the juicy, deep red/purple-ness.

Oh, what if he ate a handful of the seeds? Shelled pomegranate seeds? That might work. Goodness knows it hard enough to shell a bowlful of those, the Romans must love all that hard work.

[livejournal.com profile] demoerin got the first great Aziraphale line so I'll get the second:

Gluttony is a deadly sin, Crowley. You shouldn't encourage people so.

*rolls* So prim and proper, but as always Aziraphale is a lot more forgiving (especially of himself) than he lets on. XD
