Sherman Fairchild, on the Feast of St. Eucherius

I finished posting! Hurrah! Here's a copy of the master list for your convenience.

Food, Glorious Food: phrases from cookbooks and essays on the fine art of cooking and eating
Compiled by [livejournal.com profile] sophiap for the 2006 theme exchange

I wrote most of these in a rush, so they still need editing, particularly the second half where I got kind of lazy and sloppy. (Concrit would be much appreciated!) Rereading what I wrote really brought home the point that [livejournal.com profile] aishuu emphasized in her meta essay on short fics: they have to be focused. The ones where I was just trying to write something that fit the theme are immediately recognizable for their, uh, total pointlessness. -_- There were also a few that probably should have been expanded into longer stories and developed more carefully, although I don't know if I'll ever get around to doing so. I think the most difficult fic to write was the one for Monster, because by that point, I was writing my third psychopath in the batch, and I found the whole experience really, really disturbing. I think the fic itself needs some more work, but I creeped myself out so much writing it that I didn't want to fiddle with it anymore. I also ended up writing for several new fandoms that I'm not altogether familiar with (that is, I've read the source material but not much fanfic), and I hope I didn't mangle them too badly.

Best part about writing for these themes: describing food. Worst part about writing for these themes: getting really hungry while having no way of actually eating the foods I described. ^_^

Yours &c.

*dies laughing* I'm so jealous that you wound up with Sophia P's themes. I haven't read them all, but I'm sure they're better than you think.

If it makes you feel better, I had the same issue - I find trying to write for themes sometimes derails the whole point of a shortfic. I'm definitely not doing this again. Really pathetic, isn't it, that I don't follow my own advice?

Haha, well, some of them I'm satisfied with and others I just posted because I figured I should get something up there. The problem of mass production, I guess. ^_^;; I really loved the themes though; I definitely lucked out on getting [livejournal.com profile] sophiap's list.

I read all the ones for fandoms I'm even slightly familiar with! And even some I'm not! and the original fiction. (I liked the one about the grandmother... I hope someday I have a perspective like that, rather than this fear and uh... how can I put it? irritation with the inconvenient nature of time's passage and death's arrival. It's like when you've just put brownies in the oven and a friend drops by and says if you come RIGHT NOW we can do something amazing. XD If that makes sense.)

Anyhow they are all very good and I am jealous of your ability to write so much! Even if they were short. :O
