Resolutions!
Mar. 22nd, 2007 10:22 pmLowell House on the Feast of St. Turibius of Mogrovejo
Starting tomorrow, until I am finished with my thesis, I will:
1. Only check the friends list once, at the end of the day. (To facilitate keeping this resolution, I will remove all handy bookmark links and stay logged out of LiveJournal.)
2. Not write any posts (not even in the text editor), unless having to do with
blind_go administration.
3. Not log into Gtalk or AIM or MSN, unless having to do with
blind_go administration.
4. Not log into Facebook.
5. Not watch Youtube or any other video streaming site. (Even if that means not watching the last episode of Himitsu no Hanazono.)
6. Not download music from mp3 blogs.
7. Not go to sleep later than midnight and not get up later than seven.
8. Eat three meals a day.
9. Actually make an attempt to stay in shape. (I.e. at least do suburi.)
I will, however, allow myself to check my inbox a million times a day because if I don't allow myself at least one avenue of Internet procrastination, I'm likely to cave in and break all the resolutions at one go. I will also not (yet) explicitly forbid myself from browsing Wikipedia, reading the New York Times, looking up random etymologies on the OED, listening to streaming audio on online music libraries, reading books on Project Gutenberg, playing Solitaire/Minesweeper/Tetris, or writing fic. Hey, in the battle against computer-mediated procrastination, one must start small!
If you see me breaking any of the above resolutions, tell me to get offline and write my darn thesis.
Yours &c.
Post-script: Alas, the resolutions can only go into effect tomorrow because I still need to finish writing up my math problem set.

Date: 2007-03-23 02:52 am (UTC)Though it rather amuses me that you begin a declaration against procrastination by ... procrastinating it until tomorrow. XD XD XD *hug*
Seriously though, you are one of the smartest people I've ever met online (your posts keep astounding and amazing me, from your kendo related ones to the ones about philosophy and especially your science ones), and I am sure if I met you off of the internet, my impression would change only to include it "in real life".
You are going to rock! XD

Date: 2007-03-24 06:25 pm (UTC)Good luck w/avoiding the internet (it's evil, isn't it? Do you think people were more productive in pre-internet days, or just procrastinated in other ways?) and good luck on the thesis!
