A farewell of sorts

After giving it some serious thought, I've decided that this round of blind_go will be my last and that I'll be leaving Hikaru no Go fandom for a while.

Hikago fandom is the first and only fandom where I've ever been seriously active. I write fanfic for other series, to be sure, but I've mostly remained a lurker. Hikago has been the only series that I've cared enough about to come out of my corner in LJ.

But of course, I'll be going to grad school next fall, and I don't know if I'll have the time or the energy to remain a part of the fandom. I also think I need to wean myself off the computer in grad school...I can't continue letting the Internet be such a major distraction in my life, especially when I need to put research as a priority more than ever before.

For those of you on my friends list, I'll still be reading your LJs and perhaps even comment on your fic from time to time. I met so many of you through Hikago, especially through blind_go, and believe me, that's been the best part about the whole experience. <3 But I won't be writing any more Hikago fic or running any more challenges in the future. (Am discussing with silvermuse89 how blind_go modding will work in the future, so fear not!)

I admire you for being not only able to frankly assess what is important in your life right now, but to act on it decisively. I don't think I, myself, will ever have the mental fortitude necessary to say, 'Back, foul internet and fandom beast, RL beckons!', but dude, all the power to you!

That said, I will nevertheless miss your presence in Hikago fandom more than words can say, Tari. Be well, and don't forget to post or comment every so often to let us know how much ass you are kicking in grad school, yeah? :)

But I think I can see why you feel that you can't keep spending so much time on fandom; after all, I read your LJ, and it's so full. I've wondered before how you kept up on so many things.

You've done so much for the Hikago fandom (on LJ) and that's one of your big accomplishments as well (albeit largely invisible to the real world), and I'll miss you hugely.

All the best with grad school! And with the next stage of your life, if that doesn't sound too corny. Take good care of yourself.

Tari, I'm sorry you had to make such a difficult decision, but I think you made the right choice. The research you'll be doing in grad school has the potential to help many people, as well as boosting your career. I'm glad you're not abandoning LJ completely, even though Hikago fandom will sorely miss you.

It will be hard, but blind_go will valiantly try to trudge on without you.

PS: I adore your new layout! The pattern reminds me something Akira would wear (I adore his fashion sense) and I love the color scheme.
