...Oh dear, so many interesting posts on the friends list but still nowhere near caught up on reading the backlog.
I forgot to mention, issue 1 of
maybesparrows is up! I must admit that this site is the only thing I've been checking and reading other than my email for the past few days. ^_^ Although I think I sort of missed the point with my review, because it's not really a coherent review of the book so much as a rambling on its metafictional aspects. >_> I've had fun reading all the other reviews though, and I really want to read all the books on the list this summer.
Also,
equivalent_t's post on strategist types, with references to Ravages of Time is awesome as well. Food for thought!
Okay, must get off computer but will catch up on the friends list tomorrow.
Yours &c.

Date: 2007-06-20 12:23 pm (UTC)I actually really liked your review! It gave me a good feel for the book and what I'd be getting myself into. I feel like the above commenter in that I missed the point in mine too, though on hindsight, people look for different things in their reading; this is just what I came up with and oh well if I didn't grasp the soul of the book on the first go.

Date: 2007-06-20 01:12 pm (UTC)Oh thanks, that's good to hear. I looked at it again afterwards and was worried because it seemed to assume that the reader had already read the book. I liked your review as well; I thought it sounded like an actual review since it talks about the flaws of the book as well as its strengths.

Date: 2007-06-20 01:26 pm (UTC)I didn't feel that way at all about your review! It's a good survey of what the author sets out to do with the book and how he does so. It sounds lovely and engaging, albeit confusing in the way metafiction likes to be. XDXDXD And thanks for your comments~
