Blair Hall Apts. on the Feast of St. Romuald

...Oh dear, so many interesting posts on the friends list but still nowhere near caught up on reading the backlog.

I forgot to mention, issue 1 of [livejournal.com profile] maybesparrows is up! I must admit that this site is the only thing I've been checking and reading other than my email for the past few days. ^_^ Although I think I sort of missed the point with my review, because it's not really a coherent review of the book so much as a rambling on its metafictional aspects. >_> I've had fun reading all the other reviews though, and I really want to read all the books on the list this summer.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] equivalent_t's post on strategist types, with references to Ravages of Time is awesome as well. Food for thought!

Okay, must get off computer but will catch up on the friends list tomorrow.

Yours &c.

It's good to hear from you--was wondering if you were lying low on that kerfluffle. [livejournal.com profile] qem_chibati seems to be organizing something, by the way. ^_^

Oh no, not lying low at all, just completely preoccupied by my computer issues. Actually, compared to the turmoil that caused in my heart, fandom mini-kerfluffles seem like nothing. XD And yes, I did notice [livejournal.com profile] qem_chibati is setting up a drabble comm...sounds like fun actually.

*pets you* I'm hearing about quite a few people's computer troubles. Wonder if this is just a seasonal thing. The changing of the seasons wrecking havoc with electronics!

Ha, I wonder if everyone who wrote for Maybe Sparrow feels the same way. I read through the other reviews and was like, "Oh hell, I rambled incoherently. I'm going to go hide under a rock now."

It's definitely a good book and one that everyone should at least make an attempt to read at one point in their point, just to see the crazy typography and page layouts. Maybe a little more challenging than the genre ghetto fare I usually read but it was worth the time. (Especially once I accepted the fact that I couldn't swallow the book down in one sitting. lol!)

Yay for Maybe Sparrow reviewers! The metafiction list really is exciting, and I'm currently working on the Calvino now with Possession sitting on my shelf.

I actually really liked your review! It gave me a good feel for the book and what I'd be getting myself into. I feel like the above commenter in that I missed the point in mine too, though on hindsight, people look for different things in their reading; this is just what I came up with and oh well if I didn't grasp the soul of the book on the first go.

Ooh, the Calvino is excellent, isn't it? I finished it about a month ago and loved every page of it.

Oh thanks, that's good to hear. I looked at it again afterwards and was worried because it seemed to assume that the reader had already read the book. I liked your review as well; I thought it sounded like an actual review since it talks about the flaws of the book as well as its strengths.

It's actually really funny with the Calvino. I just started it yesterday and was very charmed by the opening chapter, but about ten minutes after it had told me to close the door as to avoid interruptions, my family pulled me away for a bunch of little tasks before it was time for me to go out. It was very distressing. XD;

I didn't feel that way at all about your review! It's a good survey of what the author sets out to do with the book and how he does so. It sounds lovely and engaging, albeit confusing in the way metafiction likes to be. XDXDXD And thanks for your comments~
