Blair Hall Apts., on the Feast of Ste. Lydia
Well, for the record, if fandom makes the big move off LJ, I probably won't move to an LJ clone but go to a Wordpress blog (either on my own domain or on wordpress.com) instead. But I do want to keep track of all of you, so let us know where you're going if you do choose to jump ship. I already use Google Reader to keep track of non-LJ blogs anyway, so it shouldn't be hard to re-duplicate my friends list on there.
I wrote the following fic for
aishuu's prompt, but I have the feeling that the person who would find it really amusing is
serendip.

He had never dreamed that baduk players could end up with a rabid fangirl following.
"Ko! First-class looks matched only by first-class skill!"
"Yeong! Forever the ideal man in our hearts!"
"Ha! There's something we'd like to say to you: Oppa, we love you!"
With that, the girls lined up outside the Kiwon all burst out screaming and tried to grab at Yeongha's shirt as he stepped into the waiting car, while shielded by the building's security guards--who were clearly not being paid enough to do this sort of work, Suyeong thought as he pushed through the crowd in Yeongha's wake. He barely managed to get inside before the car door slammed shut against prying fingers.
"To Shinchon, please," Yeongha said coolly, as if he hadn't just been nearly assaulted and molested by several dozen fans.
"What...on earth...was that?" Suyeong asked incredulously as soon as he managed to catch his breath.
"Apparently, they televised my last international match in Japan with Touya Akira on SBS."
"So what, you're now some kind of celebrity? You're a baduk pro, not some entertainer."
"Be that as it may, there's a Cyworld club and a Daum café dedicated to me now. Plus, my minihompy beat out Yunho's in number of hits last week." Yeongha pretended to study his nails nonchalantly, but there was a distinctly smug tone to his voice.
Suyeong could only shake his head in amazement. "Wow. Girls are crazy."
END
Note: The fangirls are shouting an "acrostic" where each phrase begins with a syllable of Ko Yeongha's name. It's too hard to do it in English, so I wrote it in Korean and translated:
"고! 고급 얼굴과 고급 실력!"
"영! 영원히 우리 이상형!"
"하! 하고싶은 말이 있어요...오빠 사랑해!"
Cyworld and Daum are popular Korean social networking sites and portals, well known to be hotbeds for online fan clubs. Yunho is one of the singers for DBSK, awildly overrated popular boy band.
The problem with me writing the Korean pros is that I always end up thinking their dialogue in Korean and having to translate always gives me a headache. >_> Speaking of which, one of these days I'll actually type up that long rambling mental essay I have on the differences in Korean name usage and honorifics from Japanese.
Yours &c.
Post-script: A part of me is looking forward to starting grad school and picking rotation labs and listening to seminars. Another part of me is mentally panicking at the fact that I'll have to (gah!) make new friends, meet new advisors, negotiate a whole new network of students, lab techs, post-docs and professors. _-_ Sheesh, what's wrong with me to always constantly approach the prospect of Meeting New People (Oh No!) with fear, trepidation, heart in hand, flip-flopping stomach...I mean, I always survive and come out the other end marveling that "it wasn't so bad after all," but before it's just a muddle of "what if I say something stupid or talk too much about myself or bore the other person" and "what do I say in the first place?!"

I have wordpress: http://sd.magatsu.net/blog/
Same content as the lj, but no memes, and no fanfiction, even though fanfiction is the one thing that could actually get me in trouble. ^^; I've been copy-pasting this explanation a lot today. I wouldn't add it to your feed just yet -- it'll only duplicate the entries I post here.

And re: meeting new people - you'll be fine! BTW, do you need any help moving in? You're coming on Wednesday, right?

Date: 2007-08-04 06:39 pm (UTC)Yup, I'll be arriving on Wednesday. ^_^ Most of my luggage is being shipped, and we'll be taking a shuttle from the airport, so I think I should be fine, but thanks anyway. We should meet up though, once I'm settled in! XD
