Ad Mundo Exteriore,

Look, new icon! Plain and boring, but its colors fit my journal layout. I actually am not "liberated," because I still need to write a comparative essay on King Lear and the Iliad. And technically, my science fair paper is still not finished. But because of my excellent skills of procrastination, I am going to bombard you with random nonsense.

Yesterday, we were doing Pi Mu Epsilon contest problems, and here are a few amusing ones:

If the number of people in a town is greater than the number of hairs on the head of that resident who has the greatest number of hairs on his head, and if zero is counted as a number, then it follows that:
(A) at least two people in the town have the same number of hairs on their heads.
(B) no two people can have the same number of hairs on their heads.
(C) neither of the above is true.
(D) statement (B) is sometimes true.
(E) all the residents are bald.

A boy is x times as old as his sister, and in 12 years he will be 12 years older than she will be. Hence, at the leap year following that date:
(A) he will be 13 years older.
(B) his sister will be 11 years old.
(C) the difference in their ages will increase.
(D) the difference in their ages may decrease.
(E) his sister's age wil depend on the value of x.

Suppose that at a given moment, the temperature of the earth's surface does not change abruptly from point to point, then, necessarily, at any given instant:
(A) there is at least one pair of antipodal points having the same temperature.
(B) no pair of antipodal points has this property.
(C) there is insufficient information to decide between (A) and (B).
(D) none of the above is true.
(E) all of the preceding statements are true.

If the temperature of the earth's surface is as described in the preceding problem, then, given that one, and only one, of the following statements is true, determine the true statement:
(A) The temperature is zilogonous.
(B) Statement (A) is false.
(C) Both statements (A) and (B) are true.
(D) Statement (C) is undecidable.
(E) Statement (B) is true.

Free LJ icon to anyone who can not only answer all the questions above correctly, but give precise reasons behind the correct answers. No guessing.

I think I'm going to write my comparative essay on ethics. >_<
