Haste Street, on the Feast of Ste. Florence

No, I didn't forget about the online book club idea. I just took a really, really long time to set everything up. But [livejournal.com profile] bibliophages is now open! And so is its offshoot, [livejournal.com profile] bookwormhabitat.

The setup is probably more complicated than necessary at the moment, but the idea is to develop a structure that can be adapted to new projects in the future, especially since [livejournal.com profile] team7 has some interesting ideas that the club can be used for. (Tin, let me know if my summary of your litblog idea is completely off the mark; I'm not sure if I interpreted it correctly.)

Please sign up! Also, please suggest more links for the userinfo page because my brain was too fried to think of any.

The first round's theme is "mystery" as per [livejournal.com profile] sub_divided's suggestion. [livejournal.com profile] emblem, I think the schedule for the first round should avoid your quals, but let me know if the timing's bad (the first round should be pretty small so I can probably handle it). I invited both of you as moderators and will email you with the password to the maintainer journal.

Let me know if I've forgotten or missed anything. Once there's enough activity, I'll start setting up off-LJ components.

Life has been pretty hectic on account of having to prepare a presentation on my first rotation project for next Monday. Sorry I've been so erratic with my commenting. Your regularly scheduled blogging and commenting will return after Monday, I promise.

Yours &c.

Post-script: [livejournal.com profile] sesame_seed, I got your postcard today! Thank you! ^_^

your reading communities sound so excellent, I have to join, even if I don't know yet if I'll be able to participate. :x

I was waffling about a few bookstores I visited in some of my last entries. Lets see if I could put more description in that XD

Yay, it's up! I saw my invite and I joined. ^_^b Am now eagerly awaiting the password.

Two questions (or actually, one question and one comment):

1. Should I do a "your thoughts on mystery" post before the assignments go out? Or just after the sign-up period ends? Or wait until the reading period is over? It might be nice to do one before assignments so that fans of the genre can be matched with other fans of the genre and "I don't usually read mystery but I like this specific kind" readers can be matched with other "IDURMBILTSK" readers. Maybe?

2. Does [livejournal.com profile] bookwormhabitat need all those rules about posting format? I think it might be better as a general-interest community, where members are free to post anything they want as long as it's on-topic. Asking for "reviews" is kind of intimidating but I'd bet there are plenty of who'd love to share bookstore stories. Maybe the community could have "guidelines" rather than "rules" -- ie we encourage tagging by city, state and area, and please include the name of your bookstore or library, but otherwise, have fun?

eeee, so exciting!

Will send email out now! XD

Putting up a "thoughts on mystery" post sounds great! Plus, it might get people interested enough to sign up for this particular theme too. I think there should be a similar post for the discussion period too, but that could have more focused questions, based on whatever collective list we come up with for this round.

Heh, you're right, I didn't mean to make it intimidating. I guess it was my instinct for over-organizing things that got the better of me. I'll go edit it then.

Well, the first discussion round begins juuuuust after generals end, so I think I should be okay. Might need a little help, but I'll let you know if I feel swamped.

Do you have any particular thoughts on how the format of the discussions should go?

Hm, well, I was thinking of a pretty simple discussion format: a list compiling links to all the posts in the moderation queue and maybe with further theme-related discussion questions as compiled by [livejournal.com profile] sub_divided. People would then go to the relevant posts to discuss in comments, and the comm would be unmoderated for discussion week if they want to make additional separate posts for discussion. At least that's the model I had in mind...we can always adapt and change it according to how the comm behaves. ^_^
