Hurried update to wish you all a happy New Year! I've been away from the Internet for the past few days and may continue to check LJ only sporadically (I just did a whirlwind tour of the friends list and haven't really read in any depth) until I'm back in Berkeley. Today, I learned how to play minato, one of the most basic games you can play with 화투 (hwatu) cards, also known as hanafuda (花札) in Japanese. I beat my father once and my mother twice, which I attribute mostly to beginner's luck. Still, it's a lot of fun; I think I'll post up a detailed summary for future reference.
