A small adventure

Went to talk to the advisor for my first-choice lab today, and found that we were both on the same page, which was a relief. I mean, I did have the sense that I wouldn't have trouble getting into the lab, since she recently submitted a grant proposal for my project and has always been rather enthusiastic towards me, but I was a little worried nonetheless because there are several other students interested in joining. Anyway, nothing's official until Thursday, which is the first day we can get our paperwork signed, but for all intents and purposes, I have a thesis lab, i.e. a home for the next five (or more) years. ^_^
Speaking of homes, I went to see a studio in Berkeley Hills, the expensive neighborhood north of campus where most of the senior faculty live. The roads were extremely steep and winding, and after a certain point, the sidewalks became negligible or nonexistent. I kept climbing up and up until I reached the intersection mentioned in the Craigslist ad and called the owner, only to discover that I had to travel even further along the road before I finally got to the house. By that point, I was high enough to get a view of the Bay. The houses were appropriately huge and sprawling, seated between redwood trees and elaborate flower gardens. I reached the house in question and entered this quaint little doorkeeper's alcove to ring the intercom.
The owner of the house was this small fragile lady who led me down stone-paved steps along open grounds with towering redwood trees to show me the studio in question. It had French windows and a clawed-foot tub! I would have been awfully tempted despite the distance (it's actually not that far from the area of campus I'll most likely be frequenting, but definitely very far from the downtown Berkeley area), since the price was more than reasonable with all utilities included, but alas, it lacked a full kitchen and access to laundry facilities. Anyway, she showed me the rest of the house, which was built from stone as a replica of a real medieval monastery in France: it had an inner garden courtyard surrounded by a covered walkway with Romanesque arches and a shield with fleur-de-lis arms hanging on one wall, like a smaller version of the Cloisters. Absolutely charming! I told her quite sincerely that it was worth the climb to see such a beautiful house. *_*
I suspect I'll end up posting fairly often this week, thanks to the extra time on my hands. >_> In an effort to actually bring back some fandom content into this journal, that top five meme, which I took from
clocklike: Comment to this post with a subject for a top five (ships, songs, books, etc). Be as specific or as broad as you'd like.
Yours &c.

So I understand not taking it, though, maaaaaan, it sounds so friggin' fantastic. If I were >90% computational, I think I'd actually consider it?

That's like, my most peaceful dream-come-true. I bet it was just breath taking. I can understand your being tempted to say yes. You're will power is definitely something to be reckoned with... unlike mine *how pitiful* ^__^'.
Hm...how about your favorite songs?
