Durant Avenue, on the Feast of St. Charles Lwanga

Wow, I haven't posted in a while. It's not that I've been terribly busy so much as I haven't had the peace of mind or the deep-seated discontent to spur me into blogging. I did start a plaintive entry bewailing my inefficiency in lab but never got around to finishing it (I am still very inefficient and spend hours wasting time as usual, but the situation is improving or at least I no longer feel angry with myself for it). I've been commenting on people's journals but forgetting to reply to comments, so apologies for being generally scatterbrained.

At some point, I will write a more thorough update about my thesis lab, the generally awesome people in it, and our neighbor lab where I did my second rotation and with whom we share all our space. I would also like to write an update about my recent ventures out of hermitdom (more frequent now, thanks to Steve). But neither of these posts will be made tonight because I need to pack: I'll be leaving tomorrow night on the red-eye flight back to New York. Hurrah! I'll only be back for a week, but I plan to enjoy it to the fullest.

[ ] Make much-delayed [livejournal.com profile] blind_go post about prizes
[X] Send out guessing information to [livejournal.com profile] blind_go authors who requested it (apologies for the delay to anyone who has been patiently waiting for me to respond!)
[X] Announce the beginning of posting period on [livejournal.com profile] bibliophages
[X] Eat dinner
[X] Pack clothes, sundry toiletries, books, notebook, camera, cell phone charger
[ ] Do laundry
[X] Finish assembling shoe caddy (it's been two weeks!)
[X] Sort out refrigerator (i.e. cook/freeze anything that won't last a week in its current state)
[ ] Finish replying to [livejournal.com profile] ladydaera
[X] Electronic check in with airline
[X] Clean up apartment (vacuum, mop, sort out junk, take out trash, wipe down surfaces.

In the meanwhile, I'm stealing this meme from [livejournal.com profile] ambientlight in hopes of getting more motivation to blog:

1. It begins with a list of all 26 letters of the alphabet.
2. Comment with something for me to talk about that starts with one of those letters. Make me babble about anything. Fandom or non-fandom, whatever works.
3. One topic per letter -- it's like a claims list! I will cross off letters as topics appear. If you'd like to make more than one request (for different letters), go for it. Just don't steal all the letters. For trickier letters like X or Z, feel free to suggest topics in Mandarin. Or... or something.
4. I will post a new post or several new posts, depending on response, talking about howeversomany topics I get given to me.

This will probably seem random, but how about G for Google? A friend mentioned today that he's sure that the Google execs are going to hold the world ransom someday. How do you feel about it?

W for Weiss Kreuz, please? And, unrelatedly, N for nationality and related issues? (Apologies if the latter is too personal; N for nature works too. ^_^;;)

How about 'p' for 'preservation'? I know that many people argue over what/when things should be preserved and what/when things should be demolished/forgotten/trashed. In general, how do you feel about:

preserving ideals, beliefs, culture, anti-globalization etc...

vs.

cultural and/or institutional evolution, 'getting with the times', pro-globalization, etc...

You don't have to pick a specific culture, historical site, or relic. I'd just like to hear your opinion about the subject in general. Erm....am I asking too much? Is it too boring? Sorry T__T

I came back today! And any time in the evenings plus Saturday afternoons can be a good time to hang out--my schedule is much more flexible since I don't have classes. What about you?
