So, today, we attended the seventieth birthday party of the mother of one of my father's clients. Saw living proof that yes, you can look twenty years younger than you really are. I mean, seriously, that grandmother seemed more like my parents' age. Also was heartily embarrassed because the host kept introducing me as "the girl who got into Harvard early". >_< He even announced it in front of all the guests when he was singling out various people to thank them for coming to the party. For the first time, I understood why people would want to sink through the floor. Why on earth are Korean-Americans so obsessed with brand names?! They're worse than any other Asian nationality, I swear. L.P. didn't get this kind of public exposure. And I keep getting told that I uphold the honor and future of the Korean people on my skinny, bony shoulders....sheesh! Great way to put pressure on someone! It was flattering in the beginning, but now, it's quite ridiculous! I mean, Ariel got accepted too, so it's not like I'm the only one.

And what annoys me most is that no one bothers to recognize me for any of my past achievements, like the papers I published in The Concord Review. Not that I'm not pleased to get into a good college! It's just that I put so much time and effort into my papers, but college was just an application, so it doesn't have quite the same amount of self-investment. It's like a scientist whose work has gone unrecognized for sixty years and only gets interviewed after he wins the Nobel Prize.

And well, it's a bit humiliating to realize how utterly shallow my fellow Koreans are.

In any case, I finally have the full soundtrack and libretto to Phantom of the Opera. (The CD I had before just included the "highlights".) A friend of my mother's had an extra copy (he belongs to one of those CD club things) and gave it to us. Yes! I spent all afternoon singing along to the musical. And I managed to keep up with Masquerade this time! "Masquerade! Paper faces on parade! Masquerade! Where the world will never find you!"

Oh, and The Man Who Was Thursday is really an absolutely wonderful book. For example, "And in some strange way, though there was not the shadow of a shape in the gloom, Syme knew two things: first, that it came from a man of massive stature; and second, that the man had his back to him." (It has just occurred to me that it may not be self-evident why this particular sentence is so wonderful, but it's too much trouble trying to explain it. Also, explaining things tend to take the flavor out of them. Let it suffice to say that I read this sentence and felt delighted, though it was indeed surreal and slightly frightening, "nightmare" that it is.) I have decided that one of my life's goals will be to write like G.K. Chesterton.

The new drama on KTV is very boring, but it had a scene where one of the characters was watching Lord of the Rings! ^_^ Unfortunately, her cell phone kept ringing, which did not show proper respect for the movie.
