Ad Mundo Exteriore,
At long last I have a room assignment! It came yesterday afternoon. I'm in Greenough Hall, sharing the room with one other person, a New Jersey girl who is probably non-Asian unless she was adopted. Anyway, it's a very American name, and she's from a very small town.
Greenough is one of three freshman dorms that are not in the Yard. This means I have to wake up earlier than everyone else to get to class. It also means I'm very close to St. Paul's, the student Catholic church. Mother says that it's a sign from God. I say that if it is a sign, then He's not being too subtle about it. In any case, at least I won't have to worry about being late for Mass on Sundays. (Well, the student Mass is at 5:00, so I wouldn't have to worry anyway.) It's a very quiet and private dorm hall, which is exactly what I asked for, though I didn't want to be so far from the Science Center.
What mitigates the distance factor is that L.P. is in the same building! Yay! I'll feel much better about starting college if I'll have someone familiar around. She's on the floor below me, I think. It's quite a strange coincidence, neh? Out of the twelve students going to Harvard from HPTF, the one who actually is my friend ends up in the same dorm hall. I'm feeling very relieved.
College is looming up closer and closer than ever. I'll go ahead and send out an email detailing my new mailing address and telephone number soon. I also finished the Gaara skin last night but haven't had the chance to upload it yet. (I'm on the library computer, you know.)
Oh, and a welcome back to
lush_rimbaud, who has finally returned to Internet access. I commented in your journal already, Lyd-chan, but you don't mind if I repeat the welcome, do you?
Some interesting facts about Greenough:
1) It used to be an apartment building before being converted into a freshman dorm.
2) It's named after Charles Greenough, a former dean of the college.
3) Apparently, a recent inhabitant of the dorm is one of the college's most outspoken transgendered individuals. He actually has no Y chromosomes, but has officially changed his gender status to male, without going through any sex change operation. It's wonderful what weird facts you can find on Google.
4) It has its own fire escape. I guess I won't die if a fire breaks out then. O_O
