Naruto, Spiral and speculation
Sep. 29th, 2003 02:12 pmAd Mundo Exteriore,
O_O Choji's match ended so quickly. He's pretty incompetent, neh? Yes, I just watched Naruto 51, which was probably important plotwise, but it all felt rather slow and empty. I want the chuunin exam to finish already...I want to know what's going to happen with Orochimaru.
I also watched Spiral 1-8 yesterday, and I'm definitely making Ayumu icons, as soon as I can get away from homework. ^_^ It does annoy me that the anime apparently never answers what the question of exactly who or what the Blade Children are. The manga is being scanslated at an abysmally slow pace as well. -_- While the missing rib is a clear allusion to Adam and the Garden of Eden, the situation of the Blade Children reminds me more of Cain. Except Cain was untouchable, neh? I would speculate a little more on the subject but there are so many conflicting signals that I haven't gotten anywhere. I keep expecting them to be aliens or children with special powers, but Spiral is definitely not supernatural, other than the angsting about fate and the supposedly amazing power of the Narumi brain. I guess they could be the products of a genetic experiment, and all the Blade Children are phenomenally talented and intelligent, except of course for Sayako which nullifies that theory. All this talk of fate also reminded me of Bean from Ender's Shadow, who is doomed to die because of a genetic alteration, so I still do wonder if the "curse" is that the Blade Children are doomed to destroy themselves somehow or fall ill to a disease before they're thirty or something along those lines.
Also, I don't buy the theory that Ayumu is supposed to be the Blade Children's "protector". I think what they want him to save them from would require his talent for logic in a purer sense than simply thinking up ways to rescue them from the Hunters. Perhaps there is some sort of horrible choice facing the Blade Children that they cannot escape from, and they want Narumi to figure a way out of the trap. Actually, that theory sounds kind of stupid but not more stupid than the "protector" idea. I have a sinking feeling that the mangaka is going the X/1999 route and hasn't decided what the answer is actually going to be. Which implies the ending will be extremely disappointing.
I've been going to sleep at two in the morning or later during the past week, so right now, I want nothing more than to take a nap. However, it is not to be. I must go and attempt to keep up with these wretched assignments. Woe is me.
