In which Tari returns from kendo practice
Oct. 10th, 2003 10:53 pmAd Mundo Exteriore,
Well, actually, I returned quite a while ago, and spent the time waiting for my back muscles to unknot while reading one of the fics recommended in
animehonesty. (That, by the way, is
aishuu's recs journal, and I urge you all to join it. Because she has excellent taste. In fact, I just read a wonderful GW fic, the first I've enjoyed in months, excepting my regular re-reads of
evremonde's archives. ::nods::)
Anyway, I'm getting somewhat better in kendo. My form's improved since last week--possibly the result of those two hundred swings--and I'm starting to use my back rather than my shoulders and upper arms to lift the shinai. I think Rurouni Kenshin is inspiring me as well.
I've been reading some of the Aoshi/Misao fics out there, and wow, there is an unbelievable amount of sludge. I think
pornkings is the only author that makes that pairing interesting. I don't understand why Misao has to become the surrogate Mary Sue...Well, okay, if you have a spunky, misunderstood tomboy, who really only wants to be loved back by the cold-hearted bastard of a man, you're just asking for Mary Sues. But she doesn't have a personality in half of the fanfiction. So annoying.
Anyway, so today I don't feel as tired out from kendo as I usually do. I'm surprised that I'm having so much fun--me, who hated gym with a passion for all twelve years of school. There are a lot of anime fans at the club too, which is especially cool. Plus, Jacob's joined the UChicago kendo team, and we've been having kendo conversations over email. I think it'll be cool if we both come to homecoming with shinai strapped to our backs and chase the poor sevens when they come through the Hallway. ^_^ Evil? Me? And if Lyd-chan wears her cadet uniform (are you allowed to do that?) and L.D. comes in her Pratchett play costume, we can all go march over to the various departments and see if we can scare the teachers again. (The quest to scare the teachers does not end with graduation, as you well know.)
