Ad Mundo Exteriore,

Hurrah! I've passed my math midterm with flying colors! I haven't felt this great about a math exam since...well...BC Calculus. It was terribly easy, so there won't be any curve, but that doesn't matter since I'm pretty sure I answered everything perfectly, or near perfectly anyway.

On the other hand, I got a B+ on my biology midterm. Embarrassing, but unfortunately no less than expected.

Today, our math instructor brought us home-baked chocolate chip cookies, since it was midterm day. (He's the one that reminds me of Ichabod Crane. ^_^) He also gave us this exercise: "Look at the Cobb-Douglas production function in your textbook, and find at least three ways in which this function is totally ridiculous." He was upset because the function apparently overly simplified the model in order to make the math easier, and he threw a mini-fit about it, which ended in, "And rant rant rant rant rant rant rant..." ^_^ The Cobb-Douglas production function is apparently used in economics, and since I haven't actually read about it in the textbook yet, I can't tell you what it is, although blenrock probably knows. Anyway, the point is, I have hilarious instructors, don't I?

I'm in such a great mood. Even the prospect of homework can't depress me, no it can't!

Hmm. I actually don't know for sure. I've seen it somewhere though. (Possibly the Barrons AP Ec book?) I think it's a very simple function of labor and capital where you've got a few constants c_i... and then the production is given by something like c_1*(capital)^(c_2)*(labor)^(c_3). I could be thinking of the wrong thing. Probably am. Silly me.

B+ is not embarrassing -- and should not be, especially since you're going to one of the most difficult schools in the world!!! =P
