Quizzes and grammar peeves
Jan. 17th, 2004 04:07 pmAd Mundo Exteriore,
Taking an extended study break by taking many, many Quizilla quizzes. First two, courtesy of
evremonde, the rest from my, er, spree of procrastination.

which art movement are you?

This next result is very wrong, but I'm putting it up because it just goes to show you that I must be channeling oniichan these days.

You are one of the few out there whose wings are truly ANGELIC. Selfless, powerful, and divine, you are one blessed with a certain cosmic grace. You are unequalled in peacefulness, love, and beauty. As a Being of Light your wings are massive and a soft white or silver. Countless feathers grace them and radiate the light within you for all the world to see. You are a defender, protector, and caretaker. Comforter of the weak and forgiver of the wrong, chances are you are taken advantage of once in awhile, maybe quite often. But your innocence and wisdom sees the good in everyone and so this mistreatment does not make you colder. Merciful to the extreme, you will try to help misguided souls find themselves and peace. However not all Angelics allow themselves to be gotten the better of - the Seraphim for example will be driven to fighting for the sake of Justice and protection of those less powerful. Congratulations - and don't ever change - the world needs more people like you.

Heh, so appropriate, considering I was/am procrastinating:

Congratulations! You're Gandalf!
Which Lord of the Rings character and personality problem are you?

Yup, apathy just about sums it up at this stage.

You represent... apathy.
You don't really show any emotion. You can be considered cruel and cold, but you just don't really care about anything. This is just the way you are... you're quite a challenge to get close to, and others may perceive you as boring.
What feeling do you represent?

Hurrah, Professor X is my favorite. ^_^

You are Professor X!
You are a very effective teacher, and you are very committed to those who learn from you. You put your all into everything you do, to some extent because you fear failure more than anything else. You are always seeking self-improvement, even in areas where there is nothing you can do to improve.
Which X-Men character are you most like?

Don't ask me why I took this quiz (channeling oniichan's sappiness, probably):

hand holding - you like to be in constant physical contact with your special someone but you don't want to take things too quickly.
What Sign of Affection Are You?

I like eating taffy. ^_^

You're taffy!! You're a clever and kind person,
but you tend to hold grudges. You are not big on dishing out forgiveness.
Which kind of candy are you?

Oh, and the quizzes inspired two more grammar peeves:
since vs. sense: I'm too lazy to actually define the difference, so..."since" translates to "puisque" (if you're using it in a causative sense) or "depuis" (if you're using it in a temporal relations sense), and "sense" translates to "sens". Feel free to check my French.
accept vs. except: Mistakes are understandable once in a while, due to the homophony, but constantly confusing them is pretty embarrassing. "accept" is a verb, used to say, "She accepted his proposal of marriage." "except" is a preposition, used to say, "Cathy invited everyone except me to her birthday party."
I mean, I'm not as much of a grammar fiend as Angelette makes me out to be. I don't mind typos or intentional rule bending. But I can't stand Netspeak because it causes all those idiotic teenagers to start thinking that if it sounds like the word, it must be the same as the word. Soon, you begin to wonder if people know the difference at all.
Also, I really dislike it when inexperienced fic writers use a "sophisticated" word that doesn't really fit with the rest of their writing style. It just sounds awkward. That doesn't apply to any of you of course, but it unfortunately does apply to a lot of otherwise promising FF.net authors. ::sighs::
Yes, I've been perusing FF.net in my "study break".
