Return to kendo
Feb. 6th, 2004 10:29 pmAd Mundo Exteriore,
I am so tired. My back is in pain. I have bruises across my wrist. My head aches. I can't move.
This is Tari after her first intensive kendo practice in over a month.
Well, now I can really, really scream loudly. It's so true--kiai is the only thing that kept me going at the end. My problem was mostly stamina; once that went, everything else fell apart too. (I was so out of breath toward the end of the first set of rotations that I felt like throwing up. I sat out for one rotation and recovered a little; after that, breathing was not so much of a problem.) I think I really should go running regularly, since if I'm this exhausted now, I'll be dead once the Keio students come to visit.
My form has gotten terrible, by the way. I think I need to practice the basics all over again. I probably looked completely sloppy today, especially when I was so tired that I couldn't hold the shinai up properly. Will focus a little harder tomorrow.
I'm going to go to sleep as soon as I finish eating (I'm having dinner in my room instead of going to Chili's with the rest of the club because I want to finish up Mother's soup) and take a nice long hot shower. I bet I won't be able to move in the morning and I have to do it all again at one o' clock tomorrow. Tryo-chan, you are coming, right? Call me tomorrow morning, please.

Date: 2004-02-07 07:44 pm (UTC)I talked to this girl, and she says I should contact the Dean of Students, and ask them for funds to go there, to emphasize my "intellectual" pursuit of Kendo, tell him that it isn't just a hobby, and stuff. I need some help on what to say...help onegaishimasu!

Date: 2004-02-07 09:29 pm (UTC)Copy random phrases from the documents linked to from here:

Oh and B.S. about how it's a "cultural experience" and part of coming to understand the Japanese mindset, blah, blah, blah...you might want to put in how there are "lectures" on kendo history involved (there aren't really...well, there are sort of...okay, it's all just B.S. anyway).
You might want to mention that the club also sponsors a "cultural exchange" with the kendo team at Keio university in Japan (called the Gasshuku). You know...uh...more "cultural experience"? ::shrugs helplessly::
>_> <_< I obviously have no clue. Nyao. ...Tari

Date: 2004-02-09 12:02 pm (UTC)When it's alive it's an absolutely gorgeous site and does not deserve to be insulted. But because the servers hosting all the Harvard club pages have gone through some type of extreme screwup...the club page is down. Sorry.
The link I gave you isn't to the kendo club site though...
