Ad Mundo Exteriore,

Why am I still awake? I don't really know. Have been trying to read organic chemistry textbook but not really processing anything at the moment. I've just hurriedly updated my website with the two [livejournal.com profile] temps_mort fics I wrote last fall and that Hecuba perspective I wrote for a Rome of Augustus assignment (which I classified as fanfiction).

I don't think anyone's seen the Hecuba one yet, so I guess it is technically something "new".

I'm going to reorganize that site someday.

*pats* Site reorganization or updating is always a big pain in the ass. I tend to drag my feet over my own site updates because... yes... it's always been the proverbial boil in my behind.

I say screw it and just indulge yourself in some nice chocolate ganache. Or tiramisu. ^_^ *drools*

Tiramisu...::drools as well::

And yes, webmastering is a bit of a pain. But it does provide means of procrastination, when you're desperately searching for ways to avoid doing the organic chemistry reading. ^_^

Your story is very well written. I love it ^^. Even though the topic is such a sad one. Hm... a thought: Could, through modern eyes, Ovid be considered fanfiction of Homer's works? Maybe the thought is ridiculous but I think it's interesting (the early Homer-fandom? o_o;;) *lol*. Or Marion Zimmer Bradley - 'Firebrand' would be fanfiction, too, ne? (OK, here is the weirdo in me talking...)

It makes me want to see the new movies, Troy and of course Alexander. But then, I fear for what they'll make of it ><;; I loathed Xena for a reason. And I severely hope they won't butcher reality again like that but rather make an a little unrealistic but proper movie like 'Gladiator'. But I don't really think they will... -_-;;

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the fic! Yay, I actually got commentary.

Ovid did draw on other sources than Homer, so I think his Metamorphoses should be considered one massive crossover, although all the characters are set in the same universe so to speak. I agree, it is fun to think of Roman literature as fanfiction. I think Virgil definitely should be considered a Homer fanfic writer. ^_^

I also want to see Troy, but Brad Pitt is so far from my conception of Akhilleus that I'm already expecting to be disappointed. But the trailer for the movie was absolutely breathtaking. Let's hope it'll be worth it! ::crosses fingers and hopes::

Woah, you're awake early x_X

Yes, of course I enjoyed it! It's not everyday that I can read Ovid fanfiction ^_~

Hm... you're right, it's rather one big crossover ^^. But the thought itself is fascinating. I mean, that people today read and write about the same classics that were popular even 2000 years ago (well, or even more if we go back to the Greek writers like Euripides who wrote his drama plays about the Ilias around 400 BC). Hehe, I guess they can be considered 'real' classics (I doubt that in 2000 years anyone will remember Harry Potter... but then, I might be wrong XD).

Oh, I haven't seen the trailer yet. I haven't been to the cinema for a few months, so maybe I should go... Yup, Brad Pitt isn't someone I'd have given the role either. But I'm still looking forward to it. Of course, not with very high expectations but I enjoyed other movies a lot I didn't have high expectations of (like PotC ^^) so I hope I won't be too dissapointed ^^

Heh, I was too hungry, and got up early this morning to eat breakfast. ^_^

My lit class last year loved the Iliad to pieces but couldn't stand the much more contemporary Katherine Hoffman (early twentieth century? I think...). Definitely the mark of a great classic. ^_^

*lol* I can never be hungry enough to get up before 10 on a Sunday morning ^^.

Hm... actually I think the old myths are so much more... powerful than most contemporary stuff. And if you look closely, many stories of today's novels can be traced back to these very classics. Yes, even soap operas. Once I saw a program on TV EspaƱa about telenovelas (you know, Latin American soap operas *g*) in which one of the script writers said that she found most of her inspiration in old Greek and Norse myths and that most of the telenovelas' stories are modern adaptions (I should probably mention that, unlike American soaps, telenovelas have an ending. They are rarely more than 200 episodes long, at least not the normal ones. Exceptions are the ones from Brazil, they are more like the North American ones). I didn't think of it much first. But it's true. When I was a child I remember one telenovela with the name 'Cuna de los lobos' or 'cave of the wolves'. It was about a woman who married a rich man, was hated by his family and who went on a rampage of revenge when they even took her son away to bring him up according to their own agenda. It took me ten years and a school assignment in which I had to write an essay about Euripides to make the connection. The story of Leonora (the main protagonist) was that of Medea! I've read later that other people compared it to Norse myths, especially the ones on which Wagner's Ring (in German it's 'Ring of the Nibelungen', dunno the English title) is based on but apparently they've never read Greek myths and dramas since it comes a lot closer ^^;;

Um... what I wanted to say is that I'm sure people like the old myths better because they seem to... um... activate something in them. And I think if one would dig through all those myths, even HP has some ancient core.

But then, it's the same in Asia, ne? It's very blatant in most manga (heck, they didn't even change the names ^^) and I'm sure movies and tv series are no exception. But that's probably how people like it best ^^
