Ad Mundo Exteriore,
Just an interesting tidbit: February 14, despite its traditional association with St. Valentine, appears on my calendar as the feast day of Sts. Cyril and Methodius. They were the brothers who converted the Slavs to Christianity and invented the Cyrillic alphabet. Apparently, Cyril translated the Bible into Old Slavonic--interesting because of the whole vernacular language issue that Luther brought up during the Reformation.
(That reminds me, in Orson Scott Card's Enchantment, the character Ivan studies old Slavic languages. Wonderful meld of old fairy tales in that book--I think Card said something about how he wanted it to be the "prototype" fairy tale that inspired all the modern versions. Well, either he said it or I assumed it. Anyway, I would consider Enchantment to be one of his best novels in recent years.)
If I knew about this feast day yesterday, I would have gone around telling people, "Happy Sts. Cyril and Methodius Day". ^_~
Oh, and the hunt for the Cambridge Public Library has been postponed but I suppose it's just as well, considering that I should be doing homework. >_<
I got two belated Christmas presents yesterday. ^_^ A book on kendo from
blenrock and The Elegant Universe from
tryogeru. Books make Tari very happy. ::nods::
