Ad Mundo Exteriore,

First of all, it's very cool when Neil Gaiman, of all people, comments on something that happened on your campus (the "something" being the PETA protest in Harvard Square). He made a note of how the leader had been scheduled to speak at Personal Choice and Global Transformations--I know several people in our dorm, like [livejournal.com profile] delentyevox, attend lectures for that class. Heh, I feel I've earned some "glory by association" now.

Second of all, Gerald Joyce and Leslie Orgel are coming to speak next Monday at Pfizer Lecture Hall! Oh my gosh! Ohmygoshomigoshomg! ::resists urge to shriek like a fangirl:: Their lectures are called "It's a Wonderful Life: The in Vitro RNA World" and "The Prebiotic Origin of the RNA World", respectively, and it's from 2:30 to 5:30, which is just the right timing for my Monday schedule. It's the annual Bristol-Myers Squibb Lecture in Organic Synthesis, apparently. And, wow, I would never have known about it if I didn't see an ad for it while getting lost in the biology labs, looking for the Center for Genomics Research. I have a feeling that I'm going to be surrounded by graduate students and that I'll feel very dumb and clueless throughout the entire lecture, but...Gerald Joyce and Leslie Orgel! I would skip class to go to this lecture, but luckily I don't have to make that decision. Aaaah! So exciting! (Anyone want to come? ^_~)

Third of all, tonight's the Martin Nowak lecture on "Evolutionary Dynamics". He's the professor that we stole from Princeton, who has done amazing work in all sorts of interdisciplinary fields involving math and biology, and he's supposed to speak on the mathematics of evolution, whether it involves cancer cells, social behavior or language development. Very, very creative. He's going to head the new Program for Evolutionary Dynamics, which is supposed to cover any sort of applied mathematics involving biological problems and questions. I looked at his resumé, and boy, is it impressive. The talk is supposed to introduce the program, I think, and it's advertised as being for nonspecialists, so I think it'll be interesting and not too, um, over my head. I hope. I'm going to have to miss the second half of the chemistry problem review session tonight, but I have a feeling that this is more worthwhile. ^_^

Now if only I would stop being lazy and actually find an internship...

Post-script: Stupid me. The "Evolutionary Dynamics" lecture is next Wednesday, not this Wednesday. ::slaps sense into self:: I went into the lecture hall and stared around, bewildered as to why there were only three people in a dark room watching a DVD. -_- Yes, I need sleep.

Meh...um...I misread the date, it's actually next Wednesday. >_>;;

Silly me. I went in there and wondered why the heck people were all watching a movie. I'm so out of it these days...oh well, it got me out of that last hour of chemistry review session (which made me feel really, really dumb). Hm...is that a good thing or not? <_< ...Tari
