Ad Mundo Exteriore,

Two bright spots of news in an otherwise altogether unhappy day:

1. I can access the Oxford English Dictionary through Harvard's online subscription. My roommate and I discovered this delightful piece of news more or less around the same time, while sitting in our respective rooms, in response to L.P.'s question on the greenough-list about the meaning of "hemiparetic". I think I've discovered a new, and possibly slightly more educational, means of procrastination. I love browsing through dictionaries and reading through the etymologies. And the OED is particularly wonderful because it has all sorts of strange and wonderful words, often accompanied by amusing quotes to illustrate usage. I should see if I have access to the Encyclopedia Britannica too. When I was five, I had eighteen out of twenty-five volumes of a children's encyclopedia set. I would pick up the volume with my favorite letter and randomly open to an article, which would almost invariably conclude with "See [insert related topics here] for further information." Then I'd look up those entries and keep on going until--horror of horrors--I would be referenced to an article in one of the missing volumes. It annoys me no end that almost every other Korean kid (no matter how poor their families may be) owns a complete set of the Encyclopedia Britannica (accompanied by the Great Books set) with several volumes unwrapped! You know what I'm talking about, oniichan. ::mock-glares:: My parents also picked up the first four volumes of Funk and Wagnalls somewhere, and I could only read endlessly about "American Indians" and "Aborigines" while you lucky bums ignored the gorgeous tomes sitting on your shelves.

2. I have just one last part to the math problem set (well, if you ignore that one question that I can't figure out and will need to think about some more). I may go to sleep relatively early tonight. O_O

Aww, you had the actual books? Wow. How...traditional. I only had a bootleg copy of the CD-ROM for Brittanica, and that was when I was..hm...12.

Well, it was a children's encyclopedia, picked up at the grocery store, $1 per volume.

Anyway, I don't know about you, but almost all Korean families have a complete set of Britannica. It's like a ritual or something. Cannot raise child without buying a Britannica set that remains unopened for the rest of their lives. Of course, my parents had to be "traditional" about everything else and not about this...;_; ::mourns absence of Britannica on bookshelves::

Hm. Never seen those. I did have a collection of abridged classics for children, the ones in the grocery stores (don't see them there anymore, poop, whatever happened to values, man?), that carefully wove around the not G/PG interesting stuff from Dickens and Hugo and etc, though it did made Dicken's books shorter. Bliss.

What...? Unopened Britannica Great Books? Hmmm... ::stares at shelf:: Hm... More of them are opened... But who's to say I've actually read them. .__.? ::whistles::

So, what I actually came here to do:

(Had to use Stern... couldn't get to regular NYU >_<)

There's a skins page, too, but I didn't bother to bring it with me. BTW, if you see Bambi any time soon, show it to him, too and get feedback. Hopefully my internet will be up today. -.-; It better be. But in case, please tell him.

So, the updates is ... the updates. We'll each have our own little avatar that fits in that funky quarter oval. I need help on font... ~__~;; I think the button font will stay, but the regular font... ugh. I dunno... >_Need to get in contact with Darky!! >_
