In which Tari visits the library
Feb. 19th, 2003 06:05 pmAd Mundo Exteriore,
Stopped by the Mid-Manhattan Library today, and went through the requisite security check. Except this time, the security guard was positively fanatic. He opened all the visible zippers on our bags and peered through them. He even took out someone's water bottle and sniffed its contents. I don't know what he was looking for...alcohol? Can alcohol be used to make a bomb? Probably, but still...it was so weird. He even looked through my pencil case. Yeah, a small Asian girl like me goes around hiding pocket bombs in her pencil case...right.
I read The Club of Queer Trades, which had a whole slew of funny quotes that I wanted to post here but couldn't because I finished the book at the library. I also took out Babel Tower (by Byatt) and a bunch of Chesterton novels, so guess what I'll be doing for the rest of the week? Yes, procrastination by reading. Yup. Babel Tower is really confusing, by the way, but interesting, especially with the tense shifts.
I need more Hikaru no Go.
No philosophical musings today. Just a moment of sheer pain as my poor zip-up boots were drenched with ice-cold water as I tried to wade through the remains of Monday's blizzard.
